About this Activity
This is the longest and most prestigious open-mic night in... the... world. Want to challenge that statement? Prince, Jamie Foxx, and Mariah Carey may disagree. Here, the concept is no different from other venues, but the magic lies in the superior musicianship of both singers and the band. Watch as aspiring artists take the stage and pour their hearts out in a performance to give you goosebumps. Sit-back and enjoy a night of great music. Who knows you might see Prince... or the up-and-coming Prince?

Note: There is a two drink minimum per person. The Master of Ceremonies for the evening is Ron Grant, who has produced several successful showcases over the past ten years at top New York City nightspots, including The Blue Angel, Chas & Wilson’s and Cheetah. Ron has toured internationally, recorded jingles for major companies (AT&T, M&M, Pizza Hut and Frito Lay), recorded background vocals for Mariah Carey, Bryan McKnight, and The Temptations amongst many others, and has appeared on multiple television shows. His passion for music is also exemplified in his work as a Senior Executive at Sony Music where he is charged with the task of finding, nurturing and promoting new talent.

Live Music Show - Fridays
I was in NYC for a girls' trip the first weekend in May, and we hit the Village Underground on that Friday night. We started with some laughs at the Comedy Cellar (same building, same room, so convenient) and stayed for the live music. It was phenomenal. The house band was talented, fun and energetic and played tunes for a variety of ages and tastes (Thriller/Could You Be Loved Mashup, Amy Winehouse, Aerosmith). The crowd was really diverse and fun. There are a million things to do in NYC, but I would head back here in a heartbeat.

Open-Mic with Ron Grant
This is a good place to listen to R&B music in a jam session/open mic setting.

Saturday Night Dancing
Highly recommend this spot. Went on a Saturday night and the cover band just kept getting better as the night went on. Reservations are encouraged, but by the end of the night you'll be out of your table and on the dance floor.

Open-Mic with Ron Grant
Some of the best jamming I have ever experienced. It was "open microphone" with guests on vocal and the house band as backing. It was absolutely fabulous! Went there 3 nights and will definitely go back next time in Manhatten.

Live Music Show - Fridays
I went there last Friday with some girlfriends to see the live band. That was my second time at VU and I love it. Diverse crowd and awesome band. You can hear just about any type of music there. There's a pretty good vibe and I would definitely go back.
