Sure, dog days are generally a drag. But when you're sitting on a sled, that's not a bad thing!
This thrilling dogsled experience begins with a trip to Musher's Camp, driving through the Tongass National Rainforest on Douglas Island. Arriving at the camp, you'll meet the mushers and Alaskan huskies they train.
You'll then board a wheeled summer-time sled, and your journey will begin! Excited dogs will pull you along on a scenic romp through surreal Alaskan woodland. As you go, your musher offers insights into dog training and how to pilot a sled. Summer sledding is an integral part of the routine in order to train them for winter races, and this is your chance to take part!
Returning to camp, you'll meet a dog handler and retired sled dog racer to learn about the care the dogs receive from the staff. You'll also take a walk across a suspension bridge overlooking Fish Creek and sit down to an interactive presentation about races and equipment used.
You'll finish up your day by meeting the adorable husky puppies. Cuddling with the dogs is part of the process of socializing them and essential to their future success as sled dogs.
No stealing the puppies!
Note: Let us know which ship you will be arriving on by indicating it in the special requests box.
