Located in the heart of Tongass National Rain Forest, the Stikine River is a majestic wilderness area with vast amounts of wildlife. Enjoy a fully guided tour of the Stikine LeConte Wilderness area in one of our covered, heated jet boats. Your tour will depart from Wrangell and cross the 17 mile wide Stikine River Delta where your Captain will then maneuver the river via back-sloughs and waterways in attempt to increase wildlife viewing opportunities. Learn Tlingit legends, along with history of the area, and facts about the flora & fauna from your Alaska Waters guides.
Explore approximately 70 miles of this untouched, pristine wilderness area through a spectacularly stunning mountainous region covered with the lush rain forest and large waterfalls on the way to Shakes Glacier. Note that Shakes Lake is occasionally filled with icebergs that restrict access to the face of the glacier. Depending on the time of year and weather conditions, wildlife will be spotted such as: Black and Brown Bears, Moose, Black Tailed Deer, Steller Sea Lions, Harbor Seals and Bald Eagles. Many tributaries of the Stikine River are home to spawning salmon gathered in large schools (July and August). Guests will have at least one opportunity to stand on dry land and stretch their legs during this tour.
