    Flag Stop Rail n' Raft Tour

    Who needs Alaskan "reality" shows when you can experience the beauty of Alaska yourself? Take a 15 minute ride in the historic Flag Stop Hurricane Train from the Talkeetna townsite depot to Chase! When you reach your destination, you'll hike down to the area where the rafts will be readied for you so you can begin your trip down the mighty Susitna River. You'll observe the natural beauty of Alaskan wilderness as you float along the river. See ferns that drape the river's edge, some well over 8 feet tall. Make sure to keep an eye out for soaring eagles, jumping salmon, crossing moose, and even an occasional bear stalking fish along the river banks! Sounds like a lot! Not to worry, you'll have the opportunity to take a break for refueling on a nearby island. After lunch, you will continue on your journey throughout wilderness, floating down 12 more miles of the majestic Susitna River back to the town of Talkeetna.     Summer Sunset Photo Safari

    Anchored down in Anchorage for the summer? Perfect time to capture a few shots of the Midnight Sun! Head out with a professional photographer for some one-on-one photography instruction, and tips on some of the best spots in the vicinity to capture late-day shots. As you travel, enjoy additional insights into natural history, which will serve to lend context to the dazzling backdrops you find yourself photographing. Meet at Stewart's Photo Shop in Downtown and hop aboard a cozy tour van. Travel along the scenic Cook Inlet Coast, and arrive at Earthquake Park for your first shoot: the remaining aftermath of the Great Alaska Earthquake of 1964. Then, pay a visit to Point Woronzof, known as a gathering spot for local moose. With a little luck, you'll be hanging a picture of antlers on your wall, but either way you'll have the opportunity to photograph a beautiful perspective of Cook Inlet backed by the Alaskan Range. Afterwards, a pit stop at Lake Hood Floatplane Base will give you the chance to snap some shots of the summer air traffic. Follow with a voyage through Potter Marsh. Formed 100 years ago, totally by accident, this whoopsie wetland now serves as a home for migrating birds. Continue your trip with a drive along Seward Highway, and then take quick hike to McHugh Creek. Master shutter techniques as you photograph the river's flow into Turnagain Arm, with a better-than-bad chance at spotting beluga whales swimming below. Finish your picturesque journey high up in the Glen Alps of the Chugach mountains for panoramic shots of Anchorage and Cook Inlet, just in time for sunset.     Classic Misty Fjords Flightseeing

    If you can't decide on an art museum or a scenic outdoor adventure -- may we suggest viewing works of "art" forged by the very hands of nature? The Misty Fjords National Monument "exhibits" some of the most dramatic scenery in Alaska. Boasting 2.3 million acres, it's almost four times the area of Rhode Island. But only by air can you fully appreciate the aesthetic beauty of this land, slowly crafted by the hands of nature over time -- specifically, the hands of glaciers. Massive glacier action created the ice-rimmed wilderness before you, built across the span of tens of thousands of years. Really puts things into perspective, right? So keep an eye out for the glaciers' masterpieces, including majestic fjords, cascading waterfalls, and jewel-like lakes, all of which, you will find, are dotted with abundant wildlife. Marvel at sheer walls of granite plunging over 3,000 feet into the fjords, lush forests of spruce, hemlock and cedar clinging to snow-capped peaks, in this land of incredible natural beauty and rugged grandeur. Best accessed by air, this vast untouched wilderness was first identified in the journals of explorer Captain George Vancouver in 1793. See New Eddystone Rock, a striking remnant of early geological activity, at the entrance to spectacular Rudyard Bay. This will serve as your introduction to the monument. Your pilot will be sure to point out glacier-carved fjords, beautiful river valleys, and pristine mountain lakes, identifying the scenic wonders for your viewing pleasure as you fly overhead. As mentioned, the dramatic Misty Fjords terrain is home to a multitude of wildlife. The astute observer may be rewarded with sightings of brown and black bear, Sitka black-tailed deer, wolves, moose and bald eagles. There will be plenty to view and learn about as your expert bush pilot flies over this paradise. Visible only from the air, see the splendid 1,000 foot waterfall flowing from Big Goat Lake, which was named for the region's concentration of mountain goat. Colonies of these marvelous high mountain creatures can be spotted and photographed from the air. So the next time you're looking to see some REAL art, refer to Exhibit "A": Alaska, by air!
