In approximately 400 A.D., Wa’akaulua or double-hulled sailing craft, took Polynesian settlers, their domestic animals and staple plants from the South Pacific to Hawaii.

During this 2-hour canoe ride you will experience the traditional sailing methods used centuries ago while enjoying a combination of sailing/paddling, learning about Hawaiian history, culture, geology, and traditions of canoe sailing. You will get to enjoy sailing and/or paddling around the Hilo Bay taking in breathtaking views of the coast of Hilo Pali Ku, the Mauna Kea volcano, the Mauna Loa volcano, Moku Ola, and the beauty of historic Hilo Bay.

But your relaxing ride does not end there! You will have the opportunity to hear ancient legends, modern myths, swim, and talk story on this Cultural/Historical journey linking past and present.

Customers will receive a full refund with 24 hours notice of cancellation. Customers will receive a full refund in the case of operator cancellation due to weather, should a tour fail to reach our minimum capacity (3) or other unforeseen circumstances. In all cases operator does it's best to offer alternative dates for your tour. No-shows will be charged the full price. Late arrivals may be charged a late arrival fee.
