Working out isn’t always the most fun thing to do — running on a treadmill day after day can get to be monotonous and make you feel a bit like a lab rat. Sometimes you need to spice things up and try something new! With the arrival of the new year, stick to your New Year’s Resolution of staying in shape with some of these fun, unconventional activities.

Belly Dancing – When Shakira came out with Hips Don’t Lie, everyone locked their bedroom doors and tried to recreate the moves she made look easy and effortless. Whether you found yourself successful or, like myself, failed miserably, learn the proper techniques in one of our belly dancing classes. Instructors will teach you how to use your core muscles to get into shape while learning to roll your hips in a way that will have people admiring your skills left and right.






Pole Dancing – Before you judge, try one of these classes and feel the burn in your abs and arms the next day. You will learn how to focus your core and utilize your upper body strength to lift yourself up, as well as your lower body to work the pole hands-free. While it may take a while to build up that kind of strength, have fun doing it in these classes. You’ll see how much fun pole dancing actually is and what a workout it can be. Who knows, you might end up with washboard abs by the end of it!





Krav Maga – While Krav Maga tends to scare beginners away, take one of our intro classes in this system used by the Israeli Defense Forces and reap the benefits immediately. Not only will you gain basic knowledge in self-defense, you will build up agility, strength, and flexibility. When you live in the city, it never hurts to learn new self-defense techniques and how to whip them out when necessary.





Fencing – Fencing might not be the obvious choice but with a group of friends it can be a lot of fun and a great way to get in some exercise. Fencing can teach you the power of patience and stamina as you are required to stay alert and sharp through every round. You’ll quickly get into shape as your body adjusts to the discipline that is integral to this sport.
