This tour will paint you a portrait of the life and work of John Singer Sargent, one of the most prominent artists of his generation, whose work had an incredible influence on art in the 19th and 20th Centuries.
At the start of the tour your educated and experienced guide will teach you about Sargent’s early years while walking you through the Boston Public Library, where Sargent painted a series of murals.
Next, take a trolley to the MFA, one of the country’s most important art museums! Here you will see some of Sargent’s most famous works, as well as works of artists who influenced and were influenced by him -- this will grant you cultural and historical context, and you’ll be able to appreciate his works all the more for the background knowledge you’ve acquired.
Finally, you will walk to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum to see one of Sargent’s most famous works -- a portrait of Isabella herself!
