They've created an awesome atmosphere here. I will say, if you're like judge smails on "caddyshack", pretentious at all, or over 50, you won't like it here, but then again, it wasn't designed for you.
I thought the location was interesting. It's literally underneath a bridge in Somerville, in the area looks like a place you take someone to whack them. I'm sure the rent and overhead is a reasonable however, and that only affects me on the backend, so I'm cool with that. The plus side with the strange location is that the parking is very easy, and there's virtually no traffic in the area.
So the environment they've created is incredibly laid-back and casual, and the tables are made out of kegs, which I thought was cool. They also have a variety of boardgames that you can pull out and play as you are partaking in their beverages. The music is playing, and even the employees are having drinks, which adds to the festive atmosphere. It truly is judgment free, and very laid-back.
The ciders themselves are wonderful, and as someone who grew up in Apple country, I'm picky about my cider. I find their cider refreshing and not overly sweet.
Overall, this is a nice stop, and worth half a day to check out!

Another great spot to visit if you're drinking your way through Boston!
A weird thing though - they don't serve full pours! They don't have their liquor license to serve alcohol so they give you 5 drink tickets to give you samples. But a tip to get more than 5 samples: be friends with the bartenders!
The cider here is delicious and not overly sweet like most ciders out there. We tried every cider they had on tap and my favorite was definitely the pineapple! Sweet and refreshing it's the best summer drink! I got a whole growler of that. Oh yeah you can get growlers though! My boyfriend got the bourbon cider which we loved too. The cider was aged in a bourbon barrel so it had a hint of the bourbon which was delicious.
This place is such a cool environment! It's on the water so you look across and see the Boston skyline. Stunning. It's in a huge facility, it's located in this industrialized area so it's kind of hidden away. But if you can find it, definitely give this place a shot!

If you are in Boston and like cider, you absolutely need to go here! I first took my friends over to Harpoon because they hadn't been there or done that tour yet. After that, they took me up to Downeast!
First off, I love the gritty nature of the whole setup. Coming from Harpoon where it's a huge brewery, it was nice to go somewhere different where everything was just sorta stuck in one room with the bar and a few tables in there too.
The only downside of Downeast is that they can't give full pours. BUT you get 5 free tasting tickets! Aaaaand sometimes they don't take your tickets. I maybe perhaps got about 15 tastings, so that was awesome. And it's totally free! Crazy!
This is the first cidery I've ever been to and I looooved all the cider varieties they had! The summer blend and maple blend were my two favorites! Loved the ginger in the summer blend! I also really enjoyed the Aloha Friday and the Hard Mint Lemonade tasted way more like a mojito than it did a cider!
Staff was fantastic and fun! If I wasn't coming home by airplane, I would've brought some back with me. Looks like they don't sell it down in the DC area but I may just have to order some online at some point!

This place is fantastic! They provide 5 tastings (equaling a pint) for absolutely free! I came here with 2 girlfriends and we had a good time tasting different seasonal flavors and hanging out in the warehouse. Definitely one of the cider houses worth a visit when in Boston.

This place is AWESOME!!!! The staff here is so nice and friendly. When you come in you get five tickets for samples of cider and are free to sample them at the tables they have in the seating area. We had a blast sampling the different flavors. My favorite flavor is the original hands down and the mint lemonade a close second.

Super tasty cider served in a warehouse tucked inside the East Boston shipyard and marina. On that note, this is not going to be a fancy tasting room, as it's actually Downeast's working brewery, which offers tours throughout the day.
The tasting side of the equation is a simple affair, where you can either stand near the taps or chill out at some makeshift chairs and tables. It's geared more towards growler fills and can sales, so your actual "tastes" are in small, medicine-sized cups. Nevertheless, the folks here are more than willing to fill up as many shot-sized tastes as you'd like, and you can return the favor by getting some cider to go.
And indeed the ciders are quite tasty. You can't go wrong with any of them, whether the original, cranberry, maple, pumpkin, or any of their special or seasonal blends. Highly recommended alongside a bite at a nearby venue, like the Australian-style pie shop next door.
