    "We Belay" Climbing Session (South Boston)

    So, what's a belay, exactly? It's a rope that goes all the way up the rock wall with you while your partner holds it from all the way down on the ground. Experience the rush of climbing without an automated belay that does all the work for you! In this course, a trained climbing instructor will operate your belay while you climb to the top of a rock wall suited exactly to your skill level. After your daring climb, your instructor will insure a glorious slow-motion descent down the wall where you can wave to all your adoring fans. And don't worry-- you'll be safely supervised the whole time (but you can edit that part of the story out later, if you want).

    John Singer Sargent Seminar

    This tour will paint you a portrait of the life and work of John Singer Sargent, one of the most prominent artists of his generation, whose work had an incredible influence on art in the 19th and 20th Centuries. At the start of the tour your educated and experienced guide will teach you about Sargent's early years while walking you through the Boston Public Library, where Sargent painted a series of murals. Next, take a trolley to the MFA, one of the country's most important art museums! Here you will see some of Sargent's most famous works, as well as works of artists who influenced and were influenced by him -- this will grant you cultural and historical context, and you'll be able to appreciate his works all the more for the background knowledge you've acquired. Finally, you will walk to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum to see one of Sargent's most famous works -- a portrait of Isabella herself! Come and get cultured!
