"We Belay" Climbing Session (South Boston)

    (7)
So, what's a belay, exactly? It's a rope that goes all the way up the rock wall with you while your partner holds it from all the way down on the ground. Experience the rush of climbing without an automated belay that does all the work for you! In this course, a trained climbing instructor will operate your belay while you climb to the top of a rock wall suited exactly to your skill level. After your daring climb, your instructor will insure a glorious slow-motion descent down the wall where you can wave to all your adoring fans. North End Guided Walking Tour

On this small-group walking tour of Boston's North End district, listen as your expert historian guide gives you an interesting historical account of the crucial role this area of Boston played in American history. Begin your tour near Blackstone Block, a small network of alleyways and structures in a neighborhood that John Hancock once called home. Marvel at several of the 18th-century buildings still standing relatively unaltered.

Work your way through a maze of winding colonial-era streets and learn about some of the most significant moments in American history, such as the American Revolution and the Boston Tea Party. You'll also walk through Haymarket, one of the longest standing outdoor markets where many in the North End can still buy their groceries.

Discover how longshoremen (dock workers) came to call the North End home as the city's shipping industry developed over time. Once home to African slaves, the area soon filled with Portuguese, Jewish, Irish and Italian immigrants. Learn how the area's diverse ethnic and racial influences have evolved since the country's inception more than 200 years ago.

After your walking tour, grab a bite to eat at one of the many delicious Italian restaurants -- the North End is known for exquisite Italian cuisine!
