About this Activity
If you like to create unusual spaces and structures -- think Gaudi of Barcelona, the Watts Towers, or native American living spaces -- then this is the class for you! Using direct casting methods from cardboard into plaster, construct a mysterious table-top habitation, a tower, an adobe-like southwest building, or a dream house out of hydrocal. Recycle one or two of your own coffee containers or cardboard boxes, if you’d like, and reinforce them with possible insertions of wood, metal, or almost anything. Then apply thin walls of plaster to make hidden rooms, windows to let in light, and any other addition you can think of. Find out how to print or transfer colors and textures to your cast from the mold, and then experiment with any other crazy ideas you may have. Surprise yourself!
