About this Activity
Karate has been a popular form of martial arts in the U.S. since the end of World War II, when veterans returning from Okinawa began opening up the first dojos in the country. And then, of course, The Karate Kid happened. This class will teach you the fundamentals of this venerable self-defense style and sport. You’ll work on your punches, kicks and throws under the guidance of a trained sensei, and then practice those techniques on the mat in controlled sparring. In addition to building the confidence to defend yourself in real life, you’ll be developing your strength, flexibility, and body control, thus getting a great workout. Karate also has a tradition of instilling greater discipline and mental focus in its practitioners, making it an all-around great martial arts from to study. The classics never go out of style.
