About this Activity
This visual and interactive architectural tour of some of Chicago's most iconic skyscrapers takes a creative approach, not just pointing out styles, but weaving a story around them, offering insights into the milieu that influenced their design, including aspects of pop culture and technology.
You'll explore the area south of the Michigan Avenue Bridge, including the urban playground of Maggie Daley Park, all homes to a variety of popular forms throughout the past 100 years.
This tour is perfect for those looking for a more insightful, deeper look into the city's architectural scene. And, if you look closely enough into the windows of some of these buildings, you might just see yourself.
Note: Please meet 10-15 minutes before tour start inside the Fannie May Candy Store at 343 N Michigan Ave - located at south-east corner of the Michigan Ave and Wacker Dr. intersection.

Marjorie W.Architecture Walking Tour March 21, 2017
This was fun, well-done and a great intimate, personal intro to Chicago's loop and architecture. Pawel, our guide, was so relaxed, easy, humorous, knew his stuff. We were a teeny bit late arriving, and I was impressed that he called us to see if we were on our way. There was a ton of information about architecture, great exposure to buildings we never would have entered on our own, and lots of history. The only negative for me was that we spent more time in the Ped-way than we needed to do -- you get the idea pretty quickly once you're down there. I would have like to see more above-ground stuff. On the other hand, given the fact that it was a cold wet day, it probably wasn't the worst thing that could have happened. All in all, I recommend this group and would do a different tour with them when in Chicago again.

If you enjoy the idea of a tour that takes you places (somewhat) off the beaten path, and gives you information you can’t just find in a history book, then Chicago Detours is a great way to go. It’s a wonderful option for tourists, or locals, interested in touring, and learning about various Chicago locations, and history, from a unique perspective. I was quite impressed with Amanda, our tour guide, as she was very knowledgeable, and professional, but also had some funny quips, and interesting tidbits about the locations we visited. I highly recommend Chicago Detours for anybody who is, as their tagline suggests, a curious person.

I did the Loop Architecture and Pedway tour with Alex as our tour guide. Alex's knowledge of the city was extensive. I was primarily impressed with the tour structure. I never felt like we were just walking from spot to spot listening to a guide rattling off names and dates. The 2 hours went by entertainingly fast as we stopped at unexpected places and looked at architecture, watched videos, looked at pictures, played fun trivia games and heard "behind the scenes" stories. The Pedway map is a great bonus for a Chicagoan like me or for a visitor. I would recommend this tour to people visiting Chicago, but also to locals.

I took the Loop Interior Tour and really appreciated the chance to see some of Chicago's most awe-inspiring buildings inside and out. The pace of the tour was great for getting more than just a superficial fact about each thing we saw. Our knowledgeable and engaging tour guide and the iPads (provided - stocked with videos, historic photos, and unexpected artifacts) gave us an understanding of how buildings affected people's lives and transformed the city. Highly recommended!
