About this Activity
Lucky for you, you get to eat and listen to historical happenings on this walking food tour of the Noble Square and Wicker park neighborhoods. Studied by sociologists around the world for its rapid transformation in the '80s and '90s, the Wicker Park neighborhood had previously been home to gang bangers, drug addicts and prostitutes.
Today, it is often ranked in lists of "Coolest Neighborhoods" in America, and you get to learn all about why from your expert guide, who will not only tell you all about the neighborhoods' histories, but will take you to the best eats around.
As you chow down, try to do so thoughtfully, and not ravenously.

We went on a Chicago Detours walking (and one "el" ride) tour of Old Polonia and Wicker Park and saw many things we would not have seen on our own. Our guide, Amanda, was friendly and extremely knowledgeable and gave us insights into the history and culture of these vibrant areas. We also stopped for some delicious food at a variety of authentic places representing the ethnic mix of these neighborhoods. The tour was over two hours and we enjoyed every minute.

The Wicker park/ Old Polonia with food tour was fantastic. Learned some interesting history about the evolution of the neighborhood, saw some beautiful buildings, and had more delicious food than I could manage. I loved learning about the local culture. Great for locals or travelers like myself. Thanks Amanda.

I have taken multiple tours over the past couple of years with Chicago Detours. The Pedway walking tour gave me a truly amazing perspective of a hidden part of this city (AND an easier way to get around).
Whether it is the Jazz and Blues tour, the Loop Interior Architecture Walking Tour or even a Bar Tour; Detours provides the uncommon lens for history through space and architecture. If you enjoy fresh perspective and creativity this is truly the best architecture walking tour since sliced bread.

We enjoyed two tours to see some off the path places in Chicago that provided better insight into the history of this amazing city. Our first tour was of the Wicker Park area and its adjacent neighborhoods. The Polish Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church was a real treat to see and helped us understand how strong each Chicago ethnic community once was. Our second tour was of the downtown loop area and included the Methodist Temple. It is a part of Chicago history that is not obvious to the visitor but ever so interesting. Our tours were enhanced by being led by Elizabeth, a knowledgeable and lively young Chicagoan. Her enthusiasm for the history of her hometown was infectious.

We did 2 tours with Amanda -- the Interior Architecture with the Pedway, and a walking tour of the Wicker Park area. She is personable and extremely knowledgeable (and some of our group went with Elizabeth who is also excellent) and the tours gave us great information. Interior Architecture starts in the Chase building; we also saw a Methodist church in a skyscraper, the Macy's which started as Marshall Fields, the Cultural Center, the Pedway. Wicker Park tour began in a Polish church, included blintzes in an authenticPolish restaurant, looked into a drugstore in an old bank with great architectural features, went past affluent homes, and more. I'd take another tour with them in a heartbeat.
