Leather Work 101 March 29, 2017I really liked this class. My gf and I had a great time. Needed 15 minutes more to finish my project and they don't let run over time (2 hours) which is fine.

Shoe Making: Patterns November 21, 2016I attended the introductory shoe making class this past weekend. I couldn't be happier or more excited to start working on making shoes on my own. Sara is a terrific instructor, the school is well-supplied with all materials needed, and the class is set up so that the students succeed. I traveled from Colorado to do this, and found reasonably priced accommodations through Air BnB. I was able to walk to the School, and there are plenty of places to eat; I didn't need a car. Highly recommended!

Shoe Making: Patterns October 25, 2016My husband traveled to the Chicago School of Shoemaking from Atlanta recently to attend two classes for leather arts. Our experience was incredible!! We learned so much and thoroughly enjoyed our studio time with both Sara and Deborah. We can't wait to sneak away for another couple of classes at this amazing school!

Leather Work 101 July 6, 2016I've taken several classes here over the past two years and every time it's a great experience. I recently completed my second pair of boots, which are super comfortable and look fantastic! Sara and the other instructors are all extremely knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and patient when it comes to teaching you how to craft a beautiful and useful leather item. Directions for the projects are detailed and hands-on, with small classes to ensure that everyone gets the necessary instruction. It's held in a generous, open space so everyone can comfortably work together.
Sara and her crew clearly want to make leather crafting accessible and fun, and do a great job of making sure you understand the properties different leathers and the uses of the wide variety of tools available in the workshop. The instruction I've received from CSoS has enabled me to embark on some leather crafting experiences on my own, which is great since I currently live on the East Coast! But I look forward to coming back to Chicago in the future and working with Sara again! -

Leather Work 101 April 11, 2016Took the leatherwork 101 class this past weekend and had a blast. I'm not generally a super crafty person but still had a really good time and ended up with a beautiful new accessory. Naomi was our instructor and she was great at explaining things step-by-step and working with each of us on our different projects at different paces. I love my new clutch and my fiancé's belt is also amazing. We'll be back for the 201 class for sure!

Leather Work 101 March 30, 2016For many years I've lamented the inability to find a custom boot due to wide feet and a very high instep. When my kids were born with the same wide feet, I knew I had to find a solution. I had a background in leatherworking and am a "maker" with a wide range of interests and abilities. Chicago School of Shoemaking has taught me the skills to make shoes for my whole family. The skilled instructors offer precise steps and quality products. It's a great place to ignite your the "maker" inside of you!

Leather Work 101 March 23, 2016Took Shoemaking 101 (the desert boot option) with Sara. She was an absolute treat to work with and I learned so much. It is obvious from the first minute that she is an expert and wants to make sure you become one too! Her hands on instruction guided us through all the steps at the perfect pace and our class size was great for really being able to master the techniques. I left with an awesome pair of shoes that I plan to wear for years. Not to mention the endless compliments when people learn I made them! Definitely recommend this to anyone with a weekend to burn, who wants to venture into something amazing and creative.

Leather Work 101 November 22, 2015This place is awesome! Took Leather 101 with Naomi and made the perfect belt for me. It's so good to work with your hands. Now, I examined the belts at the department store and mine is a much better quality. We signed up right away for the next class. Can't wait!

Leather Work 101 October 1, 2015Had a great time in the 101 class, so signed up for the 201 course immediately afterward!
Our instructor Jillian Jeffers was great. She took the time to go over all the skills needed to make each of the projects our group had selected, even when I went over the two hour class time by a bit.
I'm looking forward to the next class! -

Leather Work 101 May 1, 2015Being an entrepreneur myself, and after taken so many classes around, I have to say that I can't remember the last time that I enjoyed a class so much. Of course, I love arts and any kind of handmade crafts so I felt in Disneyland during the class in your amazing studio.
They don't brag around about their class or programs and yet, the delivery is AMAZING. It met my expectations above and beyond.
The studio and materials are great. I really appreciate that you don't hold on materials and opened your studio for our projects. It talks a lot about your passion for teaching.
The instructor (Jess) was extraordinary. Extremely knowledgeable, friendly and professional -

Sandal Making August 17, 2014It was great! Sara (Chicago School of Shoemaking) was very patient. I had a special sandal design in mind and she was wonderful assisting me in the creative process. 8 amazing hours of creativity, work with your hands and learn the basics of a wonderful trade. At the end your own handmade sandals are ready for Chicago's catwalks. I have already registered for another leather work class in the new location in 3717 N Ravenswood. Meanwhile I will have a great time with my brand new sandals ;-) Thank you so much, Sara!
