Aikido October 23, 2015I go to this school as an adult but my daughter also attended for a time. Let me tell you, this school is awesome. As a woman I feel very comfortable at this school. The instructors are so supportive and don't treat women as fragile flowers who are just there for show. I am treated as an equal and as a "warrior." When we say warrior it's less about the idea of a physical warrior and more about being a mental warrior. We fight within ourselves to believe that we can do something and our classmates are there to make sure we know we can. This school isn't as "pretty" as others nor will you get a black belt in 12 months. However, that just goes to show that they're more concerned about the quality of their teaching. If any dojo tells you you can get a black belt in 12 months or even 2 years you should run away and run straight to Powell's Way of Kenpo. They are serious about their instruction and don't take belt testing lightly. When you get your belt, it's because you worked hard for it by learning and perfecting techniques and not because you've been there for a set amount of time.
As for teaching the kids, it couldn't be better. They are patient, calm, and give the kids individual attention. They try to make everyone feel included while also instilling valuable skills such as discipline, focus, and the idea that there are no mistakes just things you need to work on. All of the kids love it there and I think they would stay there all day if they could.
Definitely give Powell's Way of Kenpo a try if you or your child are considering martial arts! -

Aikido September 24, 2015Powell's Way of Kenpo is not your run of the mill neighborhood martial arts school. As a PWOK student of 8+ years, I'm honored to tell you that within the walls of this school, you'll find world class instructors and students who are dedicated to training for realistic situations. You'll learn self control, confidence, discipline, and the skills needed to defend yourself in almost any situation. What you won't get at Powell's Way of Kenpo is rank for paying your monthly dues on time. You won't get saddled with mandatory contracts, useless information, or instructors whose egos are more important than what they're teaching. The kids classes are just as well taught as the adult classes, and the instructors who teach them are genuinely interested in seeing their students succeed. If you're looking to work hard, sweat, and gain all the wonderful things that come with that training, Powell's Way of Kenpo is the school for you.

Aikido April 24, 2014My time training with PWOK was a blast. The amount of skill and years of training and accomplishment the black belts bring is amazing. Once you join PWOK it is more than a membership but a family. The lessons are invaluable and the training is challenging. Highly recommended for anyone interested in trying out martial arts. JUMBO
