Looking to march to the beat of your own drum? This class is all about learning traditional djembe rhythms and djembe and dunun technique. During this class, you'll learn why the djembe and dunun drums are so important to learning the culture and influence of West African music. In this class, these will be your tools of the trade to create unique percussive beats. Enjoy the experience of learning while spreading and preserving Mande culture.
Note: Your first class is free if you say Hello to the instructor in Malinke, by saying "I nee kay." If you need to rent a drum you may do so by adding a note in the "Special Requests" box on the booking page. You will be charged $5 at the door for the drum rental.
What to expect
- Learn traditional West African djembe rhythms, utilizing djembe and dununs
- Practice traditional djembe technique such as handing and sound
- Learn the oral history of each rhythm, exploring its cultural significance

Taylor is the Director of the Tam Tam Mandingue-Chicago School of Percussion, a percussionist, entrepreneur, educator, recording artist, performer, and composer who specializes in the West African djembe and dunun drums.
