This tour explores the art glass designed, crafted or installed by the Tiffany Glass and Decorating Company, Louis Comfort Tiffany and his contemporaries, in four late 19th Century Chicago landmarks: The Art Institute, The Marquette Building, The Chicago Cultural Center, and Macy's on State Street. Discover mosaics, lighting fixtures, vaults and domes, as well as the buildings in which they are housed, recent restoration efforts, and the history behind this dramatic art form. Art Deco Architecture Walking Tour September 6, 2013Seeing the buildings and Art Deco aspects were good, but we ended up with a very mediocre docent, who dragged out the tour an extra 20 minutes with information that was, at best, peripheral to the actual tour. She read off of notes (literally read them to us) and when asked where the term Art Deco came from, she had no idea.

Modern Architecture Walking Tour July 18, 2013This tour was organized through the Chicago Architecture Foundation and the guides are volunteers so some are better than others. We found it extremely interesting but you would need an interest in architecture to enjoy this tour.

Modern Architecture Walking Tour July 4, 2013A must do! While we had admired many of the buildings we saw on the tour having the history of the Art Deco movement and the buildings explained was worth the cost. The tour guides are passionate about their subjects.

Due to logistics, we weren't able to get close to these buildings, and there was quite a bit of repetition between the historic skyscraper tour and this one.

Tiffany Art Glass Landmarks Walking Tour July 20, 2012This was an excellent tour, conducted by a knowledgable and friendly guide. I also did two other tours with the Chicago Architecture Foundation and would recommend them too. It's a great way to learn something about the character of a city that you'd never learn otherwise. I recommend very comfortable walking shoes and sun protection.
