Pop quiz: is sushi a healthy meal, a fun dinner idea, an art form, or a unique skill to learn? Actually, it’s all of the above. In this class, you’ll learn how to prepare your own homemade sushi so you can pick up a new skill, save a few bucks, and make delicious sushi rolls with the ingredients you choose. This hands-on class will have you preparing your rolls from scratch, from preparing the ingredients to assembling all the pieces. You’ll practice rolling with a bamboo mat to create maki, temaki, and nigiri sushi rolls. Finally, and this is the best part, you’ll get to feast on your delicious creations. Master this economical and tasty skill by experimenting with your own combinations. Before you know it, all your friends will be coming to you to get their sushi fix.
Note: This class is BYOB. Bring containers to store your leftover sushi rolls. A bamboo mat is included in the class fee and is yours to keep.

About the Teacher
Joelen Tan is a Chicago area private caterer and former restaurant chef. She has been recognized in both local and national media and has worked with celebrity chefs including Rick Bayless, Spike Mendelsohn, and Marcela Valladolid. Since 2007, she has been teaching culinary classes, hosting culinary events in Chicagoland and does recipe development work with major food brands.
