10 On and Off-Broadway Shows New Yorkers MUST See
Give my regards to Broadway—and off-Broadway. For those who are uninitiated, New York theater-goers will happily tell you that On-Broadway refers to plays put on in theatres with over 499 seats and a great majority of these plays are musicals. Off-Broadway plays are smaller in venue size and production and are often located in Greenwich Village, the upper West Side, and the East Side. There even exist Off-Off Broadway shows (seriously), but that’s another matter entirely. No matter where you choose to go to see a show in NYC, it’s bound to be a night to remember. Here are our picks for plays to see this upcoming holiday season.

Though we think of Shakespeare’s work as “high art” now, Shakespeare’s plays were always meant for the people. Like us, those people liked to kick back and relax with a drink or two every now and again. However, in this performance of a yet-to-be-determined Shakespeare play, it’s the performers who are going to be getting drunk. That’s right. You’ll get to see a group of professional actors take five shots of whiskey each before trying to stage classics like Hamlet, Othello and Romeo and Juliet. It was Shakespeare himself who said, “good wine is a good familiar creature if it be well-used,” and well-used it shall be!
