Over the course of three hours, you’ll enjoy multiple rotations of sitting and walking meditation, developing a peaceful frame of mind and compassionate awareness through silent reflection.     Zodiac Meditations

    Every human being is different in his or her own special way. This uniqueness can be attributed to the stars in which you were born under. A person’s Zodiac sign speaks volumes on what that individual can bring into the world. This meditation class brings in the element of your astrological sign. For example, Pieces, Cancer, and Scorpio are water signs, so their meditations would use water falls inside the music to help allow the flow of the imagination to come when it’s needed most. This class includes affirmations and statements to help you stay in tune with your higher power. Your instructor will also give you the insight, compassion and understanding needed to help you reach and maintain your life goals.

    Soto Zen Sitting Group

    Learn the incredible power of silent meditation during this Friday-morning sitting group! You’ll be joining a group of spiritually-minded individuals practicing the Soto Zen tradition. During the session, you’ll practice both sitting and walking forms of meditation as you keep silent for an entire hour in order to cultivate mindfulness and personal insights. To help solidify your understanding and bring the community together, each session will end with a reading, followed by a discussion on the practice of Soto Zen and what it means to be mindfully aware. Plus, there’s no set instruction or teacher for this class, giving you the chance to follow your zen however you want to.     Creative Writing Workshop

    “Once upon a time…” Is your writing stale and generic? Do you need help pursuing your literary dreams? LA Writers Group is here to engage you through dynamic discussion and participation, providing inspiring creative writing exercises that will help you find fresh words to apply to both ongoing projects and new content. These workshops are never lectures. Instead, they're collaborative processes that will expand your comfort zone and push your writing to the next level. You’ll work with provided prompts, which will help you expand your comfort zone and stretch your imagination. New challenges will push your writing to the next level, and you'll work with all genres in a safe space to create and critique. Meditation has long been known to bolster mental focus and clarity, as well as improve emotional balance. Not that writers ever have a problem with emotional balance! Following the meditation, you’ll partake in open discussion about mindfulness and what it means to the writer, develop your skills with creative writing exercises, and share your ongoing projects. It’s time to close the book on writer’s block! Sessions are led by Amy Spies, who is not only a longtime practitioner of meditation, but a writer and producer with over 30 years of work in the various media outlets, including film and television.

During this mindful meeting, you’ll enjoy a relaxing group sitting silent meditation for 40-45 minutes before getting up for 10-15 minutes of silent walking meditation.. This is time to practice breathing awareness and put yourself into a soothing state of mindfulness in a safe, spiritually nurturing environment. Afterwards, you’ll enjoy an intimate Dharma talk, during which the sitting group’s teacher will offer insights into the meditation you just experienced. You’ll even have the opportunity to participate and ask all those burning questions you really want to know. “Ohm” yeah!
