    Learn to Swim Clinic

    (7)
This course is focused on the mental aspect of swimming and how you "feel" rather than how you look. The first hour of this 3 hour beginner's course will be an interactive classroom discussion, followed by 2 hours of shallow water instruction. Topics of discussion will include, but are not limited to, the fear and mental aspects of swimming, what leads to adult non-swimmers, staying in control, common misconceptions of swimming, physics of water and floating, sculling and breathing. The last 2 hours will be spent in shallow water. Here you will work on the basics of walking in water, putting your face in the water, holding your breath, emptying your lungs, finding your natural front float, and finding your natural back float, controlling your buoyancy with breathing, gliding and propulsion. You will also work on conserving energy in water by learning that water supports you regardless of depth. The goal of this course is to comfortably get across a shallow 25-yard pool without stopping or standing.

    Peace - Anacapa Scuba Diving

Are there no depths to which you will not descend? Actually yes: anything beyond 60 feet, because that's about the limit of this awesome Channel Islands dive. You'll start your day by boarding the Peace, a first class dive boat, bright and early. Within two hours, you'll be out on the water heading to beautiful Anacapa, where you'll take part in 4 dives at excellent sites. Some of them may even be at a Marine Protected Area (MPA), meaning you'll be able to check out particularly rare and exotic species of fish and coral. All the dive spots offer hundreds of plants and animals, including kelp bass, sheepshead, and Garibaldi. It's not unusual to spot sea lions, seals, lobster, bat rays, moray eels, and occasionally giant black sea bass. The sun shining through the kelp gives a sense of being in an underwater forest. LA River Kayaking (Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve, near Encino)

Join us in paddling the Los Angeles River and participate in this one-of-a-kind Los Angeles experience! These guided kayak tours are in the Sepulveda Basin which is the most natural, wonderfully green part of the river which passes through one of two official Recreational Zones. It is a leisurely, 3-mile flatwater paddle which is manageable for beginners and fun for other skill levels, too. You will observe numerous bird species as you paddle along, and spot locals as they fish from the banks. You'll pick up safety and paddling skills, all while having fun and getting some great exercise along the way. We run this trip as a loop to avoid any hassles of portaging around hazards or barriers, or waiting to be transported back to your vehicle. All in all, after this trip you won't be able to look at Los Angeles in quite the same way again.  LA River Expeditions is the original boating outfit on the river and the only one leading tours in both Recreational Zones. We are the group that, in 2008, paddled the 51-miles of the river to help win environmental protections for the river under the Clean Water Act. Were proud of our contributions to our city's education, recreation and activism. We do all this because we are avid kayakers and all-around river enthusiasts. We love rivers and we love sharing the river experience with others. Our guides have decades of collective experience running rivers worldwide. They are professionally trained and certified in both river safety and first aid/CPR. You'll be in good hands!
