    Inside Adventure Tour

The Airport in the Sky, where unused miles and lost luggage go to die. Well, isn’t Catalina rather heavenly. This 3,000-foot runway is plopped atop a 1,600-foot peak right , smack in the middle of the island. Reachable by private or charter plane, it’s also your midpoint destination on this scenic bus tour. From its lofty heights you’ll enjoy a picture-perfect perspective of your surroundings, including a look down at an Indian burial site. But getting there and back is part of the fun, too! Unspoiled countryside, striking coastlines, and dramatic canyons are hallmarks of the 10-mile route. Keep your camera at the ready for an unexpected photographic opportunity. Bison, deer, boar, turkeys, eagles, ravens, crows, and even the endangered Catalina Island fox are all known to make appearances from time to time. You’ll even have the chance to learn about them at Airport’s Nature Center, along with the island’s history of inhabitation, which dates back 6,800 years! Airports on top of mountains? Great idea, as it turns out!
