Surf Lesson (2 Hour) April 30, 2017Laird provided the perfect amount of natural and cultural history, risk management and fun! It was truly a once in a lifetime experience and I'm convinced it was made possible in large part because of the expertise and friendly enthusiasm Laird exhibited.
Our 11-year-old daughter was a little anxious about the trip and by the end, it was her favorite part of being in the Channel Islands.
We found Santa Barbara Adventure Company to be professional and educational and fun! -

Stand Up Paddle Lesson (2 Hour) April 12, 2017Seriously one of the best tour groups I've been a part of. Booking was easy, communication beforehand was clear and preparing us to go out in our kayaks was easy. The sea cave kayaking experience itself was SO awesome. It definitely got my adrenaline going. Our guide Adam was funny, encouraging (especially when I didn't feel confident about going in one of the cave) and very knowledgeable about ecology. My husband and I had the best time! Also, highly recommend booking with Island Provisioners to have your meals prepared ahead of time. It really made it feel like a vacation with one less thing to worry about and a delicious lunch.

Stand Up Paddle Lesson (2 Hour) April 6, 2017I did a sea kayaking trip with this company on March 26, 2017, with Hector as my guide. It was a wonderful experience. He was a very knowledgeable guide, and provided us with interesting information about the history of the island, its geology, and its natural resources. We experienced the exciting spray of a blowhole, explored some sea caves, and paddled through the kelp forest. We saw lots of wildlife - brown pelicans, oystercatchers, other shorebirds, harbor seals, sea lions, etc. Our group was only 5 participants. I appreciated that Hector asked us to identify what we wanted to get out of the trip and something about our interests, showing that he was committed to making personal connections and providing the best trip possible. Highly recommended!

Stand Up Paddle Lesson (2 Hour) April 6, 2017What a fun time my family had with SBAC kayaking the sea caves off Scorpion Pier on Santa Cruz Island. Our guide, Tony, was fantastic. He explained a lot about the Channel Islands, the wildlife, and flora. The sea caves were phenomenal. My favorite was the Green Room. My two teen boys had a blast! SBAC keeps the group sizes small and puts the same level of kayakers together. I would definitely kayak again with SBAC next time at Channel Islands, and would recommend them to my family and friends.

Stand Up Paddle Lesson (2 Hour) April 6, 2017We had a great trip kayaking at Santa Cruz Island. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable about the ecology and history of the island, while providing a very safe experience kayaking in sea caves. While the trip may be a bit overpriced, it is a great way to visit Channel Islands National Park.

Stand Up Paddle Lesson (2 Hour) April 4, 2017We stopped and grabbed lunch/snacks before we took off- huge suggestion. Views were beautiful, kayaking was incredible, all staff was so helpful. It was a chilly day but still very nice. Would do again.

Stand Up Paddle Lesson (2 Hour) April 3, 2017When the weather forecast indicated high winds, it put our more ambitious kayaking trip around Santa Cruz Island on blocks. Luckily, SBAC was able to provide a safe, comforting guided trip to several sea caves around Scorpion Bay. Matt was a superb tour guide: personable, enthusiastic, and safe. SBAC broke us up into small, manageable groups. Saw kelp and seals and stunning scenery.

Painted Cave Excursion - Double Kayak February 4, 2017Our kayaking trip was awesome! We got lucky and went out on a sunny December morning. Our tour guide, Kyle was very friendly and went the extra mile for us during our tour. We was very thorough on safety procedures and paddling techniques and was very helpful!
He let us choose which sights we wanted to visit and he provided a delicious lunch during our on-shore break.
Upon getting ready to get back into the water for the second half of our tour, a huge wave came crashing in and my boyfriend fell off his boat and his glasses fell off with his Croakies :(
Kyle tried to help us look for them but we didn't have much luck. We decided it wouldn't be safe for him to kayak without being able to see clearly so we called it a day and Kyle was so kind and ran to get the van, pack all of our stuff, and drop us off at our hotel.
Although we had to cut our experience short, we were very grateful for Kyle's willingness to help and his above and beyond service. We will definitely be back and more prepared for the waves! -

Painted Cave Excursion - Double Kayak January 21, 2017Over the last ten years I've taken about four trips curated by this outfit. The owner, Michael, has built a one of a kind company. They have both some stock trips (Channel Island sea kayaking, Wine Country biking) but they will also create bespoke trips to fit your group.
I've been on trips bike riding in Santa Barbara, taken surf lessons with them in Carpenteria, been rock climbing and hiking, and sea kayaking in the Channel Islands. All were top notch.
The naturalists are friendly and knowledgeable; they are also great with kids--patient, kind, encouraging.
Let them plan everything and just show up and challenge yourself and have fun. You won't be disappointed. -

Mountains on Shore Bike Tour December 29, 2016Marc was an awesome, insightful guide that kept our trip entertaining and engaging. This trip would have not been the same without his guidance. Thank you Marc!!

Sea Cave Kayak Tour October 19, 2016Santa Cruz is so close to the mainland, and getting away from the slither California coast will shock you with biodiversity, the sheer power of the sea, and beauty.
The crew of the boat to and from the island are lovely and really enjoy their jobs. This is wonderful to see. The island crew is expert and humorous. We explored the sea caves with a small group which you must try! Billy and Ryan were our guides. When I missed a queue on the timing of a wave set in a particular cave and capsized, Ryan and Billy swooped in and righted the situation masterfully. So - you're in good hands!
I would only wish to have had some shade on the island. Umbrellas would be good in a rest area. Bring hats and lots of sunscreen! -

Sea Cave Kayak Tour October 19, 2016I spent the day kayaking through caves and open waters around Santa Cruz island with a group of about 8, led by Billy. He was super knowledgeable and fun.The ride to and from the island on the ferry was pleasant as well. Though you never know what the weather will bring, on a nice day I can't think of better way to spend your time.
Only issue is kayak comfort. Make sure your seat is well-adjusted from the beginning, and don't hesitate to ask your guide to help adjust it if it isn't comfortable. -

Sea Cave Kayak Tour October 17, 2016We took the boat out to the island and met up with our instructors. They both showed us how to kayak and what to expect. The cave tour was amazing and beautiful. The island and the wildlife were spectacular. The team was very nice and helpful. They made sure we had everything we needed and answered questions along the way. I highly recommend this trip to anyone interested in the sea caves on the island. Truly spectacular.

Santa Barbara Kayak Tour October 13, 2016Knowledgeable! Would do the channel islands over and over again with this staff. We felt safe and confident. The gear was great too!

Sea Cave Kayak Tour October 13, 2016You take a ferry from Ventura to Scorpion Island, which is about an hour. After landing at the island, you begin the kayaking adventure through these very cool sea caves. This lasted for about 2 - 3 hours. Following this, you have a few hours to picnic and hike before heading back on the ferry!
Dress in lots of layers. It was super windy and chilly by the end of our stay! -
Jen R.
Santa Barbara Kayak Tour October 5, 2016We enjoyed our kayaking trip and our guide as informative and very nice. We had camped on the island the night before so we met the group at the kayaks in the am. We were hoping for a bit more excitement or adventure, but the trip was pretty and the caves were interesting. I thought the trip was quite expensive for what we did, but it is a remote location so I guess that's understandable.

Santa Barbara Kayak Tour October 4, 2016Spencer was our guide and we had an amazing time. They were well organized and had all the equipment we needed, had nice, comfortable kayaks, and showed you everything you needed to know. Spencer knew all kinds of fun and interesting facts about the island and was patient with us all day. It was a great experience and I would highly recommend it!

Santa Barbara Kayak Tour October 2, 2016Best way to see Annacapa! The island is better from the sea than on land. It is a bird sanctuary, so you definitely feel like an intruder when you are on the island. But from the sea, you get to experience the beautiful rocky cliffs, impressive sea caves, quintessential Channel Island icon, and rocky beaches. Our tour guides were great, and made sure that each guest had an amazing experience.

Santa Barbara Kayak Tour October 1, 2016Girls 40th celebration of kayaking and hiking The Channel Islands. We saw seals, sea lions and our wonderful guide Marc (with a "c") dove in the water to pull out some red and purple sea anemones! We swam, kayaked through some incredible caves and learned so much about the ecology and geology of the islands. Knowledgeable and friends staff...accompanied by a great IPA on the return ferry. A must do on your trip to Cali!!!

Refugio State Beach Kayak Tour September 26, 2016My boyfriend and I went on the 3.5 hour guided kayak trip followed by snorkeling and hiking on Santa Cruz . Our guide Billy was the best, request him by name!!!

Refugio State Beach Kayak Tour September 24, 2016We happen to have the absolute perfect day. It was Sunny, but not too hot and the wind was very calm. We went in every single cave the tour guide offered. We saw Sea Lions up close (10 feet from the Kayak). Our guide (Billy) was very knowledgeable and friendly. I Highly Recommend this adventure!

Refugio State Beach Kayak Tour September 20, 2016Our guide was interested in each and every one of the participants. He had fun stories about the boats we viewed (and kayaked under). He knew all about the birds and animals we saw, as well as the fishermen and their catches.
Lunch was a pleasant stop on a quiet beach. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the wraps. Lunch is not the normal (and expected) white bread, lunch meat, and lettuce make your own sandwich lunch we have had from other providers. The food was VERY GOOD. Also, there was plenty, so we did not have to "be polite" about how much we ate.
We had a lovely day. This was the second time we had kayaked with the company. We will probably plan another trip with them. -
Scott H.
Refugio State Beach Kayak Tour September 20, 2016Our tour guide Aaron was great, the whole experience was incredible. I would definitely recommend the Kayaking trip to anyone considering going to the channel islands.

Refugio State Beach Kayak Tour September 16, 2016It was a great day with a lot of options and the guides were attentive to diffrent skills and wishes. The exploring of the sea caves were a bit disappointing because the caves were much smaller than i had expected. We didn't stay in caves looking around, just getting in and quickly out again. Sometime it was just about getting through small spaces.

Refugio State Beach Kayak Tour September 16, 2016This place is amazing!!! The guides were great. I think Mike was our guide. He was patient with the folks on the tour (8 of us). He took us to challenging places and let us decide if we wanted to go in or not. My husband and son fell out of their kayak and he helped them get back in. My son is not experienced and freaked out on the waves, hence the falling out! They got back in and had a great time regardless. I want to go back out and do the longer tour. Highly recommend this trip to anyone who loves adventure and nature.

Fun Paddle Midweek Tour September 13, 2016Great trip! One hour boat ride. Safet talk and then we were off in the ocean on our kayaks. The caves were great. The ocean clear and beautiful. The guides were excellent and informative. Long day. Well worth the money.

Fun Paddle Midweek Tour September 13, 2016Amazing adventure touring the sea caves on Santa Anna Island. We took the boat to the island then got outfitted to kayak through the sea caves. I had my iPhone with me in a sealed waterproof case that had a neck strap this was fantastic since it allowed me to take beautiful pics and kept phone attached to me in event of tip over which several people did in sea cave. We all opted to wear wetsuit bc it was cold on the outset by mid afternoon when sun came out we just removed wetsuit top. I wore teva sandals. Pack water and hearty lunch. There is no food on island and you work up an appetite. Bring change of clothes/shoes. You have free time to snorkel. We elected to hike/explore beautiful wild island instead. I recommend two hours for this. Next time we will try the overnight camping option. This is an expensive trip but really worth it. Pack waterproof wind resistant jacket for boat ride with layers under or fleece blanket. We were COLD both ways!

Fun Paddle Midweek Tour September 10, 2016We did a full day on Santa Cruz Island with a half day sea cave kayaking. The boat trip was done by Island Packers, and they did a excellent job. The dock on the island is out of commision, so we had to load into small skiff six at a time. We left the island 1hr and 20 minutes late, so keep that in mind if you make dinner reservations. The guides with the adventure company were also excellent. I would suggest you wear the water proof jacket they provide, also long pants or wet suite. The restrooms and changing rooms are very primitive, so plan accordingly. A lot of hard work, very windy with rough seas, but worth every dime.

Fun Paddle Midweek Tour September 9, 2016I loved this trip! It was one of my favourite things about my family trip to California. The two instructors from the Santa Barbara Adventure company were knowledgeable, patient and very safety conscious with a group that included young children. It was great to be on the ocean and we were even kayaking with a pod of dolphins at one point!
My 13-year old became sea sick on the trip and they handled that very well and the whole family ended up really enjoying it.
I would definitely recommend it. -

Sunset Kayak Tour September 8, 2016We spent the entire day on Santa Cruz island and had an awesome time. The guides are terrific, especially Adam. They worked hard, and had a lot of knowledge about the island. Highly recommend. Thanks for everything!

Sunset Kayak Tour September 8, 2016Our family (two adults, two teens) did the sea caves kayak trip to Santa Cruz Island at the end of August. Two guides met our group at Ventura Harbor, and a third met us on the island; all three were very friendly and patient, and the kayaking itself was a lot of fun. We spent somewhere between two and three hours out on the water, and then had about the same amount of time free to explore the island (or to snorkel, although we opted to hike.) I would definitely recommend the trip.
Island Packers deserves a separate mention; our captain and crew were terrific. The Scorpion landing where they usually dock was not operable during our visit, and passengers had to be shuttled back and forth to shore via Zodiacs; the crew had their routine down and got everyone in and out with a minimum of waiting. -

Fun Paddle Midweek Tour September 8, 2016We had a great time! We did the morning kayaking tour, which left just enough time for lunch, a short hike, and about 45 minutes of snorkeling afterwards. The kayak tour guides were excellent. They took us in about 6 different caves, and knew which ones were safe based on tides. They talked about the Channel islands and the birds and animals that live there, the kelp beds, sea life, etc.
Our only complaint is that the boat ride over to Santa Cruz Island was super choppy, and there were many seasick passengers (including my hubby). It's about an hour ride, so take your dramamine! The kayaking is on open water as well, so people who were seasick on the boat over were also sick while kayaking.
This is probably not a good trip for people with certain disabilities. The dock is in disrepair so they have to skiff you over to the shore, which meant climbing off the boat, down a narrow ladder, into a little 6 person boat. The island is very primitive - pit toilets, nothing paved, etc. My dad, who has bad legs, can snorkle and scuba, but wouldn't be able to do it there.
Go with a bit of an adventurous attitude, as they obviously can't control the weather or tides. But it was definitely a great experience! -

Sunset Kayak Tour September 6, 2016We did the half day kayak at the Channel Islands over Labor Day weekend and it was an amazing adventure. The wind was howling so the conditions were tough but our guides were awesome. We were given the option to challenge ourselves or play it safe throughout the tour so it was great to have both options. Guides were awesome, experienced and fun. I highly recommend the Santa Cruz Island kayak and would also suggest requesting Adam or Hector as your guide.

Sunset Kayak Tour September 6, 2016Wow! Our group of 9 had an amazing time taking first time surfing lessons. Billy and Spencer were patient, knowledgeable and fun and made an effort to get to know each of us personally. They made us a fabulous on the beach and then encouraged us to get back in the water for the second half of our session. Couldn't have been better! Highly recommend!!

Sunset Kayak Tour September 5, 2016we are just back from our weekend at Santa Cruz. We had such a great time. Our kids ( 15 and 12) said this had been the best vacation ever. Perfect combination of nature and sport/ family activity.Thank you to Santa Barbara Adventure and to our guide Marc- he was great showing us all the beautiful caves and keeping us safe. A great experience, would most definitely recommend to friends.

Sunset Kayak Tour September 5, 2016What a wonderful place to be! I went to Santa Cruz Island and i had an amazing day with the contribution of the guys from Santa Barbara Adventure Company.
The Island is beautiful but be aware that you need to bring food and book your adventure in advance in case you want to do something more than just hiking. My guide was Adam and he is very knowledgeable about the island and its wildlife. First things first. The boat ride to the island is amazing, we saw a group of dolphins, sea lions and WHALES!!!!Once we arrived at the island we went kayaking for 3hours ( the best part!) the caves are amazing and its so much fun to see the island from the ocean!!! After that you are free to go snorkeling and/or hiking.
The guides made everything very easy and relaxed. They do not rush you to get ready and to move to the next part. Everyone goes on its own pace so you can enjoy your day.
Very nice group of people. Cant wait to go back!!! Thank you so much for all the attention! -

Painted Cave Excursion - Single Kayak September 4, 2016The Painted Cave Tour (the last one of the season) was awesome. Really well organised. The staff were very knowledgeable about the area, history and marine life.
The crew of Truth Aquatics were also really friendly as were the SB Adventure Co. guides - Matt and Hector. (Matt plays a mean uke and Hector was patient and kind with the whole group and kept us laughing).
There were also very comfy beds to sleep in below deck and yummy food to eat throughout the day.
A wonderful way to spend the day in SB. -

Painted Cave Excursion - Single Kayak September 4, 2016Kayaking was a really really fun experience for me and my girlfriend, Matt our guide was super helpful and knowledgeable, kayaking inside a cave was unbelievable, I recommend everyone to try it out, best experience

Painted Cave Excursion - Double Kayak September 4, 2016We took an afternoon sea kayak trip and it was amazing. We talked about everything we experienced long into the night once we returned. Our guide (Mark I believe) was very informed about all the caves and made us all feel very safe.
My husband and son shared a kayak and unfortunately fell into the ocean. Mark was very helpful and got them back in and was extremely patient. There were 5 in my party and another party of three joined us for the tour of the caves. The group was small and it made it easier for the guide to handle.
It is the ocean that you are in, not a lake so be prepared for an adventure!! -

Painted Cave Excursion - Single Kayak September 3, 2016Great weather made for a super day kayaking at Santa Cruz Island. Clear waters, calm winds allowed for excellent wildlife sightings - 3 kinds of dolphin, humpback whale, sea lions, seals, orange Garibaldi, feeder fish, little crab things, a lobster, oyster catchers, herons, pelicans, island fox, etc. Relaxed guides, informative and appropriately cautious when necessary. Thank you Tris!

Painted Cave Excursion - Single Kayak September 3, 2016Just returned from a fabulous vacation in Southern California. The highlight of our vacation was kayaking the caves of the Channel Islands. Our guide, Hector was wonderful! He gave us such a fun adventure of the sea caves and was very knowledgeable of the area. He challenged us, had patience with us and showed us a great time. We would highly recommend this adventure to all our friends. Thanks again Hector for giving us everlasting memories.

Painted Cave Excursion - Single Kayak September 3, 2016We chose SB Adventures because they had a full day trip that left from Santa Barbara Harbor to kayak the sea caves of Santa Cruz Island, including the sacred Painted Cave. There were a total of 13 people taking the trip and 2 guides, Hector and Matt. The group split in two and we were with Matt. He was terrific in telling us about the flora and fauna of the island along with the rich history of the Chumash Indians. The kayaking was great fun and the caves were amazing! Our boat, the Truth, dropped us all off at Emerald Bay and met us at Quail rock at the end. They also served us breakfast on the way out and a hot lunch when we got back on board after kayaking. We even had time for a little snorkeling before heading back to Santa Barbara.

Painted Cave Excursion - Single Kayak September 1, 2016We had an AWESOME time on our guided kayak trip through the sea caves on Santa Cruz Island! Our guide Adam was so great--very friendly, very helpful with the kayaks and super knowledgeable about the history of the island. My husband and I have spent a lot of time on Catalina Island, but we had never been to any of the Channel Islands. So this was such a wonderful trip to explore a totally new place. The SB Adventure Co. did a GREAT job and made this one of the best tours we've ever been on!

Painted Cave Excursion - Single Kayak September 1, 2016I have lived in Santa Barbara for a long time and this was my first visit to The Channel Islands. In one word, GO! I went with my sister and we had a blast. Our guide, Rye ( like the bread, his words) was exceptional. He truly made it an experience that we will treasure and never forget. ALL of the guides/employees were spot on, from the minute we got on the boat to the minute we got off. I am in the hospitality business in this beautiful town so I understand the importance of providing an experience that guests will appreciate and remember for a lifetime. Island Packers nailed it, thank you! We did the kayak tour and then had some time to hike before leaving, this was a day we will never forget.

Sea Cave Kayak Tour - Double Kayak August 28, 2016We took the Truth to Santa Cruz island. The breakfast was good and the crew were very helpful. Clean, comfortable vessel. Mark and Aaron were our two kayak guides and they were terrific. Very informative, helpful, safety - conscious and entertaining. Lunch back on board was hot and well beyond what we were expecting. Overall an excellent experience. Would highly recommend the excursion.

Sea Cave Kayak Tour - Double Kayak August 27, 2016We had an awesome day filled with adventure. We started early morning on the ferry to the channel islands from Ventura. Make sure your bring some warm clothes as the ferry ride can be chilly. We landed on the Channel Islands and had a few hours to hike and snorkel on the island (definitely recommend). We got to see the indigenous foxes on the hike, they are so cute! We then did some snorkeling (wear the wetsuit they provide the water can be cold). We ate some lunch then went kayaking. The water was pretty calm and we got to see some awesome caves. Matt (our tour guide) was so knowledgeable about the island itself and kayaking, we felt super safe with him. We brought our gopro with us (one of the helmets had a mount) and took some awesome shots and videos kayaking. On the ferry ride home we saw so much wildlife including a whale and a school of dolphins. Highly recommend this company if your looking for a fun filled day of adventure!

Sea Cave Kayak Tour - Double Kayak August 27, 2016We had a great day starting with the ferry to the Channel Islands and seeing the sea lions and a huge pod of dolphins. Then spent the day kayaking with our guide Spenser who went above and beyond for our group who consisted of both beginners and experienced kayakers. He continued to help us in the afternoon with snorkeling gear and just general conversation. And then Spenser spent the entire ferry ride home hanging out and converse ting with our 10-year old. The whole group was organized, timely, fun and professional. Looking to repeat this adventure in the future

Painted Cave Excursion - Double Kayak August 26, 2016I was lucky enough to have my girlfriend surprise me with a guided kayak tour of the Channel Islands sea caves a few weeks ago. We had an absolute blast!
Matt, our guide could not have been more informed on native marine and plant life. He taught us how to "pinwheel" turn among other beneficial kayaking techniques.
I would definitely recommend this experience to tourists and locals alike. -

Sea Cave Kayak Tour - Double Kayak August 26, 2016We booked onto the coastal kayaking tour. Due to our poor navigation skills we were late arriving to the tour but the guides kindly waited for us and were very understanding.
Everything was prepared and ready when we arrived - the guides even had extra bottled water and sun cream if anyone needed it.
The guides were very friendly, professional and knowledgeable about the local area and wildlife. They had many interesting facts to share! One guide even found a sea urchin and was able to serve it up with lunch for those of us who were brave enough!
The kayaking gave a lovely view of Santa Barbara and was good fun. Would definitely recommend! -

Painted Cave Excursion - Double Kayak June 29, 2016I can't even tell you what a great time I had with this company. I decided to go kayaking with my girls for my "60th Birthday Bucket list adventure" and settled on Santa Barbara Adventure Company. I was really excited about exploring the caves and I was not disappointed.
Our guide was Adam. He was knowledgeable, funny and ALL the guides were extremely helpful. I was a bit nervous about being an "elder" in the group and never having kayaked before, but they made me feel right at ease and helped me with any needs I had, which fortunately, weren't many. What I really liked about this particular adventure, was that it wasn't just kayaking. The kayaking went anywhere from 2 - 3 hours, but opportunities for hiking and snorkeling were also available for the remainder of the day.
If you are unprepared for doing anything, no worries, they had everything in case you wanted to use their stuff. Water shoes, wet suits, wind jackets, snorkeling equipment and of course, life vests were among the many items they supplied. All you needed to bring was lunch.
I recommend 3 things...1. Wear a ball cap, as the floppy sun hats don't fit well under the helmets; 2. Be sure to wear shoes that you can walk over rocks on and 3. READ the info they e-mail you with your confirmation.
This adventure was educational as well as exciting. I completely enjoyed this trip and would highly recommend it to anyone, as well as doing it again. -

Santa Ynez Wine Tour - Non-drinker July 22, 2014I chose Santa Barbara Adventure Company for the Wine & Cupcakes tour for my bachelorette party. Nine girls went, and we had the best day! Christie had great information for us about the area and the vineyards, took us on a little detour to see miniature horses, and kept us on track all day. She was pleasant and fun, and the wineries were EXCELLENT. If you're like me and are just starting tasting in Santa Barbara, you can't go wrong with this tour. The cupcake pairing is brilliant and fun, and the experience was overall 100% lovely. I cannot recommend this tour and this company highly enough.
