The Amazing LA Race 1 December 17, 2016Super fun afternoon of racing with our kids. Lots of hills and stairs, so plan accordingly. Our preteen and teen were challenged without being overly frustrated, as were we. Very well done!

The Amazing LA Race 1 December 7, 2016We did the Fantastic LA Race 1, which apparently was their first and most difficult race. This was our first foray into these outdoor scavenger/mystery solving races, and we all had great fun. The puzzles are not as difficult as those found in the ever popular escape rooms, but the race did a great job of having you explore parts of Los Angeles and seeing what Los Angeles has to offer. Our host, Mitch, did a great job and helped with a couple of hiccups along the way. The only warning for this race is that it does involve taking the Metro Red Line, so if you are sensitive to motion sickness, I would avoid this race. We had to take the Metro twice, and I almost threw up both times because of motion sickness and the frequent stops. Even with this, I would still highly recommend it with the caveat that you should take some medication prior to starting the race if you are prone to motion sickness.
Fantastic LA Race 1 has you exploring the Hollywood area and even going downtown Los Angeles via the Metro Red Line. The passes for the Metro were covered as part of the entrance fee for the race, so there are no additional fees along the way. There were a couple of hitches along the way where we couldn't get access to all the clues because of events going on at the same time, but Mitch kindly helped us with these. We had been to most of the areas covered by the race, but this race would serve as a great introduction to these areas for people who live in the greater Los Angeles area who haven't had a chance to explore these areas. It was also a great way to combine fun with exercise, as we were out for about 4 hours exploring these areas and trying to solve the puzzles. -

The Amazing LA Race 2 May 15, 2016We did the LA 2 race today. Five of us, 4 adults and one 14 year. Was trying to find a fun family different thing to do. It was a lot of fun. We made a few stupid mistakes so ended up second.
It was a lot of fun and Anthony, our host was very nice. After reading all the reviews here, I brought snacks and water. Not sure we really needed snacks as we finished the race in just 3 hours! The little one of the group did dig into them a little, but I really didn't see a need for the snacks. Just eat before the race. For sure you do need water, it wasn't even a hot day but you run around A LOT so that was needed. Also the running shoes are needed. I think next time I will bring paper. Thought I could put things in my notes, on my phone but easier if we had paper.
The puzzles were pretty interesting to figure out. I would have to say I have read how many say don't over think. That is very true!
We had to call Anthony for a hint because we spelled a clue wrong. So we should of stopped and thought about it first, hence the stupid things that made us come in second not first. :(
But we all said we wanted to do it again and next time be 1st! -

The Amazing LA Race 2 May 13, 2016Our family had a great time exploring and trying to solve the puzzles. It is a well planned race -- the clues are tough though. We have never seen LA and Hollywood like this, even though we've lived here all our lives. Highly recommend this for anybody so long as you are able to walk alot!

The Amazing LA Race 2 October 26, 2015OMG I had so much fun!!! It was incredible and unexpected! The game was very organized. The puzzles were smart. We definitely have recommended to others via Facebook :) and we will also do it again!!!! Thank you so much for the experience and sight seeing places! To think that we have lived here for so long there's still so many places to discover in Downtown LA and Hollywood. Made us appreciate our city a little bit more now.

The Amazing LA Race 1 October 12, 2015Did the Amazing/Fantastic Race #1 for my 29th with 17 friends (4 teams).
GREAT birthday outing event to try if you are looking for something different than the usual bar/club scene .
Puzzles are very clever, interactive, and gets everyone involved. The best part about the race aside from the bonding experience, was that it allows you to explore many parts of Los Angeles that one would usually miss when driving through town.
Race leader Jerry's enthusiasm really sets the tone for the whole race and he makes sure everyone is taken care of and very thorough on the little details.
Definitely willing to try the other races ! -

The Amazing LA Race 1 August 12, 20155 of us from 58 to 16 did the LA1 race Saturday. I was so impressed at well thought out and managed it was. We all had a wonderful and thought-provoking day. It is hard to find an activity where 5 people can participate, but each of us had our strengths that we could use at different times throughout the day. It was great going from one end of LA to the other. One of the best parts..No driving involved. That doesn't mean you should cheat and use Uber or another transportation service. What they provide is fair and way more fun!

The Amazing LA Race 2 May 20, 2015We met up with our race leader, Colleen, at the Hollywood Bowl parking lot. After giving us instructions and the rules for scoring, we were off on an exciting scavenger hunt that encompassed the Hollywood area and Downtown Los Angeles.
There was only one point where we were unsure of what we were supposed to do and ended up wasting precious time wandering around. For the rest of the puzzles, it was pretty clear what the next step was.
If you want to win, be sure to wear your running shoes and dress lightly, as we noticed other teams running from location to location. There are some tasks at certain locations, however, where it might have been better to have a staggered start, so teams would be less likely to be on top of each other. Fortunately for us, we were so far ahead of our competitors that we didn't see them at all after the 5th puzzle. But I think that if there were five or six teams at each puzzle location, it would have been hard to concentrate.
The puzzles are reasonably challenging, but not overly difficult. After a late start (around 11:30, due to the tardiness of one team), we ended up completing the race in about 3 hours. The last team arrived at the end point about an hour later. Be sure to have something to eat in the morning, so you don't run out of energy midway through the race. -

The Amazing LA Race 1 May 19, 2015We went for LA Race 1 last weekend and it was an awesome race. Everybody thoroughly enjoyed it. The clues and puzzles are nicely tailored and everybody helped because most of the puzzles did need the team to come together. My word of advice, call the help because if a clue has already taken 15mins of your time it's not worth spending any more time on it, but had fun to solve all those by ourselves. It was truly a fun ride for us, one of my friend even added that this is the best thing we have done to date :-)
We are already ready for our next race!!! -

The Amazing LA Race 2 January 7, 2015I really had a fantastic time today at The Amazing LA Race 2, and highly recommend it to others! In fact I'll take it a step further and guarantee that I'll be planning to catch any and all of the other variations they offer and getting as many of my friends to join as possible!
Without giving away a single spoiler, I'll say that Bob does a great job of having high energy throughout his interactions with us competitors, and the game is full of clues and puzzles and riddles some of which are far harder and more frustrating than others. It was so much fun getting the chance to play a game but also tour LA and I can tell you that it felt like an amazing workout to boot. We must have walked up a storm today! I suppose that anyone who isn't in good enough shape to walk a few miles - especially in the LA sun - may need to avoid this due to its inevitably exhausting nature. But if you're not that person, then you'll have such a fun time seeing the sights, getting a workout, and playing the game! -

The Amazing LA Race 2 December 27, 2014Our family just participated in the race today....and it was so much fun! We have two teenagers and a 7 year old. We really weren't sure how it was going to turn out, but we decided to give it a shot based upon the amazing reveiews; and it did not disappoint!
While I wouldn't recommend taking a group of young kids, we managed to find ways to let our youngest feel included in the clue solving, so she stayed engaged the whole time; and our older kids (14 and 16) led the way for our team!
It was fun, exciting, thrilling, definitely physically taxing (lots of uphill walking). The clues are challenging, but fun to figure out.
It started at 11am. Half of us had eaten breakfast, but I had packed water, snacks, and lunch, so I wasn't concerned about that. Honestly, there wasn't time to eat our lunch. We were constantly on the go. If I did it again, I would pack small, easy, one hand kind of snacks because we didn't want to take the time to sit and eat. But our adrenaline was going and we were fine until the snack portion of the adventure, which, for us, was a little after 3pm. This was a great way to end the day. You end a restaurant where they give some appetizers and drinks...and "crown" the top 3 teams. It was fun talking to the other teams to find out how they solved clues...or almost took a wrong turn, etc.
I recommend getting a group together who likes to have fun - nothing worse than having a Debby Downer in the group. The clues can be frustrating; and it can get competitive, so you want people who have a sense of adventure, but also a sense of humor!
It was a great way to end 2014 for our family....we would definitely consider one of the other races!!! -

The Amazing LA Race 1 November 28, 2014What an adventure! From the moment Colleen said, "Go" our team of two was taken on a scavenger hunt of Hollywood and Downtown L.A. Details? I do not want to give the answers away. Where would the fun be? I will say that the race is a well organized, well scripted adventure. You are given clues for each location and are left to your own wits to solve the puzzles. You can ask for help if needed, and their actors along the way can give you hints and encouragement. Best not to overthink the clues! Knowledge of the area can give you an advantage, but it is not necessary. Wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for lots of hill walking. (Be mindful of this if you are racing with kids and teens. Our race had a few who lost interest quickly.) You finish at a restaurant where you are rewarded with snacks and drinks. Some people signed-up the day of, so if it's a pretty day last minute competitors can join.
We did the Los Angeles Race 1. So happy there are others. Highly recommend! -

The Amazing LA Race 1 June 7, 2014My sister was in town visiting from Kentucky and I didn't want to go to just the normal tourist stops, so I saw this and thought it might be a good alternative.
We completed L.A. Race 1 today and had an absolute blast! We went to many sights around Hollywood and Downtown L.A., and got to solve challenging, mind-bending puzzles at the same time.
This race is incredibly well run and I will definitely bring friends back to try some of the other races. -

The Amazing LA Race 1 May 29, 2014This review is for the Los Angeles race 1:
I grew up in Los Angeles and have taken visitors to all the tourist attractions in town so I thought that this race was going to be a bit boring for someone like me. Fortunately, it was super fun AND showed me the city in a different light! It was the first time I took the metro in LA and my first time visiting a good portion of the attractions. Even the places I had previously been to became very different as the clues pushed us to pay attention to the smallest details!
It was fast-paced, challenging, and incredibly fun. I can't wait to check out all the other races that this company hosts! -
