Historical Hollywood Tour

I've lived in LA for two years and now can appreciate Hollywood the way it deserves. Felix provides an unusual and insightful look into the history of the radio, television, film and music industries. He has researched his material well and is an upbeat presenter. You should take this tour! My friends who suggested it to me have gone on it four times!
So why four stars and not five? Felix can be a bit caustic at times, chastising you - in fun - if you take notes or glance down at your phone. So prepare yourself to not take his lighthearted scolding too seriously! Once you get past that, you will have a delightful and enjoyable time learning from an expert.

The Felix in Hollywood tour is just about the exact opposite of one's stereotype - no homes of the stars, no tacky tour bus, no hard sell, no made up stories about Julia Roberts shopping here or Bruce Willis eating there. Nope - Felix is the real deal, a walking, talking, joking, enormously educated and entirely charming guide to the hidden history not just of the movies, but of television, radio, music - the whole range of American entertainment.
It's a walking tour, but a most unusual one, given Felix's amazing ability to conjure up the reality - some of it glamour, some of it business, some of it heartbreak - that lies behind the often anonymous buildings that housed the making of everything from the earliest silent movies to today's hit records. It's like spending an afternoon with a good friend who happens to be encyclopedically knowledgeable about the place he calls home.
Highly, highly recommended.

I suppose the average five-star rating speaks for itself, but I would like to add to that because this really is an amazing tour. We went on it a couple of weeks ago, having done the appalling Starlines celebrity homes tour earlier that morning. The contrast really couldn't have been any greater - it was like coming up for air after nearly drowning!
Philip is incredibly knowledgeable about Hollywood's history and brings it to life in a very entertaining and informative way even though many of the buildings are long gone. Having travelled widely in many parts of the world, I have rarely been on any tours that were as fascinating and well researched as this one.
To put things in context, my wife and I - who both love the outdoors and were visiting California from the UK for our honeymoon - went to the Grand Canyon a few days later and were like "Yawn, next", whereas this tour really left us very impressed. If you want to have a truly world-class experience in LA, go on this tour.

Fantastic tour with Felix - an absolute font of knowledge for all things Hollywood. From the humble beginnings through to modern days, Philip is a masterful storyteller who weaves history into the tour - making the buildings come alive with his indepth knowledge. Highly recommended as part of your LA stay!

This walking tour was possibly the best thing about our trip to LA (outside of the sunset at Santa Monica). The guide was so knowledgeable it was incredible, we shared a real passion for the history of Hollywood and walked the streets of Sunset Blvd where TV, radio and film grew to be huge industries.
The discussions, insights and overall atmosphere of this tour made us feel warm and happy - definitely recommend for anyone wanting to see the non-tourist side of LA - the real side.

Please do yourselves a favor and stay away from the guys on the corner tours!
This is the tour you need to go on!!! Phillip is incredible! His historical study is spot on! He is also a gifted storyteller! To find both is nearly impossible, but Phillip proves it is attainable.
The walk is easy. I walk with a cane and it was an extremely hot day, but made it easily.
My son recently moved to Hollywood and has a job where he is going to come into contact with many visitors to Hollywood so we wanted him to learn from the best. Phillip is the best!

This tour is totally worth it. You get a blow by blow, building by building history of a six block area of Hollywood where the film industry began, and continues to thrive. Philip, your host, is super. I took a group of college film students. They were all totally engaged and inspired.

Man, Felix really knows his stuff. I can't tell you too much about the tour because he wants to preserve the mystery. I will say that it is worth the money and by the time you walk away, you'll know more about and seen more of old Hollywood than you ever have before. I was the only one on my tour, so I got an exclusive one-on-one visit with plenty of time for questions.

As a movie person and recent Los Angeles transplants, I think this tour is a great way to get your head around this city. You learn a lot about how the city and how the entertainment industry developed in Hollywood. The tour guide is quirky and passionate. BONUS - What you learned on the tour might make you most interesting person in the room at the next party you go to ;o)
