Laura Plantation Tour

What to expect
  • Visit the Laura Plantation, considered by many to be “the best historical plantation tour in the Mississippi Valley”
  • Discover the history behind the home setting of the story “Brer Rabbit” -- written right on the grounds
  • Gain an appreciation for the ghosts of the past when you explore former dwellings, worksites, tools and clothing from The Plantation’s former residents
  • Enjoy an activity that is both educational and fun for the whole family
The Laura Plantation -- once run by four Creole women, (most notably, Laura) has been home to many over the years. But now the grounds are home only to visitors who seek the remnants of the past.

Cross the threshold of the front portico and you’ll enter the harrowing history of slavery, viewing the quarters where humans were once entrapped into labor and hearing stories of all aspects of the plantation life.

You’ll also hear other facts about how the book “Brer Rabbit” was written on the grounds, and how The Laura Plantation was nearly destroyed by fire back in 2003 and rebuilt to its original design using materials from antique homes that had been disassembled and sold off into pieces.

What a history! Don’t miss this incredible antebellum adventure.
