Buried in guidebooks? Get the dirt on one of New Orleans' most popular attractions with a local guide during this 2-hour walking tour of St. Louis Cemetery!
This 200-year old and still active cemetery is lined with above-ground tombs, within which rest some of the city’s most notable and notorious past citizens. You’ll learn all about the interred residents of the cemetery, which include Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau, architect Benjamin Henry Latrobe, Mayor Etienne de Bore, and others. You can also visit monuments such as the Musicians’ Tomb.
As you walk, your guide will also offer insights into the burial customs and considerations behind the cemetery’s creation, and lead you to discover some of the architectural oddities found within it. You’ll also discuss the preservation efforts enacted to keep it from crumbling, and talk about the streets surrounding the cemetery, which once housed the city’s notorious Red Light District, Storyville.
