    Architectural and Sightseeing Tour

    Discover New Orleans' heritage and the beauty of its period homes during this guided tour! After pickup from your downtown or French Quarter hotel by air-conditioned van, your architectural tour begins in the French Quarter, where you'll learn about the history and design styles of the old Creole city of New Orleans. Ride along the city's stately streets, passing jewels of architectural styles in the French Quarter, Bayou St John and Garden District, and enjoy guided walking tours of St Louis Cemetery #3 and the Longue Vue House and Gardens -- a Classical Greek Revival mansion filled with artifacts spanning the breadth of its history. This small-group tour with a maximum of 13 people ensures a more personalized experience. After pickup from your downtown or French Quarter hotel by air-conditioned van, your architecture tour begins in the French Quarter, where you'll learn about the history and design styles of the old Creole city of New Orleans. See the Pontalba Buildings of Jackson Square, admire St Louis Cathedral and enjoy a view of the Mississippi River. Along Esplanade Avenue, you'll pass by the French Market, the old US Mint and some elegant mansions.

    Next, hop off your van and stretch your legs at the historic St Louis Cemetery #3. During a guided walking tour, see some of its many societal tombs, such as the Hellenic Orthodox community and the Dante Lodge of Masons, which represent the varied backgrounds of New Orleans' former residents.

    Back on your van, travel along peaceful Bayou St John, where you'll see houses from the late 1700s. Stop for refreshments and rest rooms after a drive through City Park, home to the Carousel Gardens Amusement Park and centuries-old live oaks.

    Make your way along Lake Pontchartrain's shores, where you'll learn about the levee system and see one of the longest causeway bridges in the world, and then arrive at your final stop - the Longue Vue House and Gardens.     Your tour continues past the grand oaks on Esplanade Avenue, a shady stretch where carriages once traveled for respite from the summer heat. Visit an aboveground cemetery and stop at City Park, where you'll visit either Morning Call Cafe -- known for its coffee and beignets, a popular New Orleans pastry -- or Besthoff Sculpture Garden, which features more than 50 world-class sculptures in a lush, 5-acre setting.

    Next, journey to the shores of Lake Ponchartrain, the massive wetland that flooded much of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005. Here you'll visit the New Canal Lighthouse Museum, which is located in a lighthouse that was decimated by the storm but reconstructed and reopened in spring 2013. On your guided tour of the museum, take in excellent views of the levees on the lakefront and the Lake Ponchartrain Causeway, the longest bridge over water in the world.

    In the course of your half-day tour, you'll visit well-known New Orleans neighborhoods including Faubourg Marigny, Faubourg St John, Lakeview, Uptown and Carrollton. Along the way, see Xavier University of Louisiana in Carrollton. Established in 1925, the institution is the only historically black, Catholic university in the United States. You'll also follow the route of the St Charles streetcars past two more well-respected private universities -- Loyola and Tulane -- before returning to the French Quarter, where your 3.5-hour tour of New Orleans concludes.
