Looking for a way to combine martial arts, acrobatics and dance? If so, Capoeira is the style for you! This introductory class is the perfect way for absolute beginners to learn the fundamental moves of this hybrid martial art. Class begins with a warm-up combining stretching and basic Capoeira moves. You will then learn choreographed routines through sequences and drills to help foster interaction with other students and develop a solid base in the techniques by honing your offense, defense and general reflexes.

Everything else will feel so boring after getting a taste in Capoeira!

Note: Payment in cash only. Loose pants and t-shirt, or any clothes that allows for a full range of motion is recommended.

Joy San Agustin (a.k.a. Instructor Coruja) began her Capoeira training with Capoeira Brasil in 2000. She has spent extensive time training across Brazil, has been a featured performer for Nike and Sony, and has appeared on numerous TV programs. Currently, San Agustin instructs all levels of capoeira in Manhattan and Queens. OR Mathuzalem de Melo Jr. (a.k.a. Instructor Tuzinho) began Capoeira in 1997 in his home country of Brazil. After moving to NYC in 2001, Tuzinho founded Capoeira Brasil NYC, along with Instrutora Coruja, in 2005. Tuzinho has performed and given workshops throughout the U.S. and Brazil. In 2006, he founded the first branch of Capoeira Brasil in Ohio where he now has several thriving academies, including one in the Oakley Community Center.
