Out of the dozens of day trips I've done with Discover Outdoors, and before that Outdoor Bound since at least 2004 or 2005, this was the best trip ever! It was a perfect blend of activities with about 5 miles of calm river kayaking, a stop for rope swing & swimming; followed by about 7 flat miles of remote, scenic trail biking along the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail including a relaxing and unrushed lunch stop in the woods with live music and great food, going across the Rosendale Trestle to explore a geo refrigeration cave; then to end at the Bradley Farm for more goodies, farm produce & products, cold beer on tap amid some cute farm animals and a chance to chat with new friends - doesn't get much better than that. Thanks to the wonderful team at Discover Outdoors for creating a masterpiece of a day! Keep up the great work!!!

This was a good experience! My wife and I did the Horseback Riding and Wine Tour. Everything was taken care of, all we had to do was show up. The guide/driver was friendly and engaging and all-in-all it was a very fun time.

I had an incredible experience on Minnewaska state park "Whiskey Hike". With a group of around 10 people we drove to the Minnewaska State Park, started by hiking around the lake and made our way up into the surrounding hills. The hike was filled with stunning vistas, sheer rock lookouts - and to cap it off we went to the Hudson Whiskey distillery, a 10 minute drive from the end of the hike, to taste some of my favorite whiskey.
Our guide was Phillip Braun, who did an excellent job and was very knowledgable of local history and natural fun facts:)

Nothing but the highest praise for Discover Outdoors...took up hiking again several months ago after a long hiatus and have been on six or seven trips with them, as a solo traveler and with friends. Each one has been seamless, with a fantastic guide, easy transport, and most importantly, a well planned stunningly beautiful hike. They have outings for everyone from the most hardcore endurance athlete to beginners and the guides do an incredible job of managing different abilities, even helping me adapt a recent route in the Catskills, my first trip to that area (thanks, Wendy and Alexis!) Anyone who wants to take regular trips out of the city should check out the season pass - it is a great deal.

We've partnered with Discover Outdoors for years on outdoor leadership trips for graduate students. Their team is well-organized, knowledgeable, and has been willing to work with us to adapt trips for our group's needs. We've done rock climbing, hiking, and kayaking - all of which I would recommend. The guides are incredible, and able to work with and encourage people at all levels. Each trip has been fantastic! Our students consistently ask for additional Discover Outdoors trips.

Getting to new trails from the city without a car is pretty difficult, Discover outdoors makes it super easy though. I've been on two hikes with the organization, with guides Emily and Wendy. Both times we met at Paragon Sports by Union Square, drove up, had an awesome hike, and then went to Tuthilltown Whiskey Distillery with Wendy and Newburgh Brewery with Emily. I highly recommend both tours, and am currently planning my next one!

My partner and I did the Hike & Brew and the Horseback Riding & Winery and we loved both!
The hike was a bit challenging but nothing we couldn't handle. The guides were friendly and talkative and we enjoyed the brewery afterwards.
The horseback riding was fun and the winery was a great way to cap off the day.
The trips are reasonably priced, the guides are knowledgeable, the communication regarding the trips is great, and I would definitely recommend them!

Our guide, Wendy, was great! She was friendly and knowledgable.

We went on a hike yesterday with Discover Outdoors and honestly could not have asked for a more positive experience. From start to finish, our guide Wendy was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, encouraging and supportive. Over the five or so miles that we covered (some of which was pretty technical), Wendy was there to lend a hand and offer advice and suggestions on how to safely navigate those sections of the hike, taking into consideration each individuals abilites. I would definitely recommend adventuring out with DiscoverOutdoors! I know we will definitely be back!

Magen is awesome! We had tons of fun, did the snow trip and ended at the whiskey tasting. Make sure you get the real Magen. She has blue hair.

Discover outdoors is a god-send for city lovers who are also nature lovers. They make it easy and affordable for a city dweller to access a variety of fun outdoor activities which otherwise might be a challenge to plan for car-less and time strapped Manhattan-ites. I have participated in numerous hikes, wine tastings, and whiskey tastings and they have all been so fun and a great change of pace for a weekend activity. All their guides are so nice and knowledgeable, and as an added bonus, just fun to hang out with, really making it more than just a hike. I have made a few friends on their trips as well as actually learning a thing or two about hiking, wine etc.
Additionally, If you are looking for a fun group activity they can help! My best friend and I loved their excursions so much, that we recently decided to try organizing a private one with the company for her birthday. I HIGHLY recommend using them if you are looking for a fun group activity. We did a private wine tasting and hike for 14 and everyone had an amazing time. The winery was really beautiful and the company picked a great hike for our group’s ability level. Our guide, Marcus, was so engaging and fun - he really helped set a great tone for the day. Also, the Discover Outdoors team made everything easy to set up, and graciously accommodated our million requests. It was a nice way to hang out with the group and change it up from our normal city activities together. Set one up, it is easier than you think and you won’t be disappointed.

I've been on 3 trips with DO so far and I continue to be impressed everytime. Zach and Megan were awesome guides in every aspect of the trips I've been on. Accommodating, knowledgeable, courteous and professional are some attributes that come to mind. They really help create a welcoming environment for the group. I'm really glad I went with the snow pass, as I definitely wouldn't be able to afford trips at full price. I hope something similar comes along once spring and summer roll around. Long story short, I'd definitely recommend DO to a friend and I'm excited to say I'm already signed up for 3 more trips next month. Keep up the good work!

Just did my first hike with DO last Saturday (3500 Series Hunter Mountain) and it was awesome! Very well organized, great guides, challenging yet fun hike, friendly fellow hikers (attended on my own). DO takes care of all the headache of planning a hiking trip: you don't have to rent a car (try finding one in Manhattan for less than $80 a day), you don't have to drive, you don't have to worry about tolls and gas, you don't have to worry about getting lost, God forbid an accident happens you have professional guides to help, you don't have to buy the equipment (they provide snowshoes and micro spikes). For me, what they charge is worth every penny. All you have to do is show up at the pick up point and enjoy your day.
I've already signed up for 2 other hikes this winter.

I loved the wolves but my favorite part was getting to the lake when hiking and picking all the berries.
Tayaba A.Hike and Brewery Tour July 8, 2015
I did the campout/hike up Mt. Washington for the 4th of July weekend.
I didn't know what I was getting into, but what I got into was more than expected.
It was fun, difficult, unpredictable, and absolutely something I'll do again.
Honestly, our guides Josh and Lucas I think made the difference. They made sure to get some great food for our dinners/lunches, carried the heavy stuff, and made sure no one was left behind on the trail.
Kudos to them and DO for such an exciting weekend!

Discover Outdoors is an awesome group of amazing people who organize trips for those seeking outdoor adventure. I did the Meditation at the Monastery and Hike and I loved it! Transportation is included but you can drive if you prefer. I will definitely do more day tours with this company. I especially look forward to snowshoeing this winter and the Hike & Howl!
Nicole A.Hike and Brewery Tour March 9, 2015
Went with my friend on a day hike to Millbrook Mountain/Lake Minnewaska and had the greatest time. Our guide Marcus was awesome and very informative. We had time to do great trails as well as take some scenic routes.
Will definitely be booking more trips in the future with Marcus and Discover Outdoors!!!
Omari R.Clydesdale Horseback Ride & Brewery Tasting July 14, 2014
Discover Outdoors is an awesome company for the casual adventurist who wishes to escape the city from time to time. We left promptly from the departure site and it was smooth sailing from there. The horseback ride was a little disappointing. Anybody who knows anything about horses know that Clydesdales know they aren't fast horses and really docile compared to other breeds but I was hoping for a more adventurous ride regardless. After the ride we got a guided tour of the farm and the guide was very knowledgeable, answered all my questions... I learned a lot from him about horses in general.
After the horseback ride we headed to "brewery" which felt more like a bar/restaurant that craft its own beer (ale's exclusively. There was no tour of the "brewery" but I got to try 6 selections of their crafted beer which were mostly decent. We also got our meals paid for because we weren't allowed to eat our outside meals inside the "brewery" which was a nice gesture by our guide Marcus.
Discover outdoors is fairly pricey but I will definitely be signing up for future adventures with them. Actually, I'm already book for their hike/photography tour so I'm looking forward for that. Eventually, I hope to do their Africa adventures in the future.
Jessica B.Hike and Wolf Sanctuary May 4, 2014
Such a great time. Our guide was personable, knowledgable, and fun. The visit to the wolf preserve was interesting and the hike was long, gorgeous, and even a little strenuous. I would recommend it to anyone interested in wildlife and the outdoors.

Michelle L.Hike and Brewery Tour February 23, 2014
I went with three of my friends on one of Discover Outdoors' snowshoeing trips this past weekend and had a great time! We had originally signed up for the Canopus Lake trip, but due to lack of good snow, our location got moved to Minnewaska State Park Preserve instead. Our pickup location was at Union Square (right outside Starbucks, Panera, Au Bon Pain, and near Whole Foods - convenient for grabbing breakfast!), and after everyone in our group arrived promptly at the check-in time, we were on our way.
Our guides, Evan and Lauren, were super friendly and helpful. They led us on two trails in the park, and we covered all kinds of ground - through the woods, along a river, and up to the top of a ridge. Snowshoeing itself isn't too hard - it's basically hiking through snow, so as long as you're reasonably fit you can do it. The toughest part of our hike was probably going up a giant hill, but at the top we got to see Lake Awosting all frozen over, which was pretty awesome.
The trip was a bit pricy, but it included transportation and all the snowshoes, so it was really convenient.
Some tips if you're planning to go snowshoeing:
- Wear thin layers - you will get really warm and sweaty while hiking.
- Be prepared to either 1) pee in the woods, 2) use a port-a-potty (which I didn't use, but other people said was really disgusting), or 3) hold it until the van stops at a rest stop.
- Bring extra socks and shoes! You can leave them in the van while you're out hiking. I wish I'd done this because despite wearing snow boots, my socks somehow still got soaking wet, and it was really uncomfortable on the two-hour ride back.
