About this Activity
Your tour begins at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture with a multimedia presentation and peek at the Center’s exhibitions. Afterwards, a born and raised Harlem guide will take you to historic points of interest; special attention will be given to music and performance history. In order to maximize your enjoyment, the tour will be supplemented with multimedia videos, pictures and music. After a tour backstage of the Apollo Theatre, you’ll get to try your own hand at performing on stage in the tour’s “Amateur Night at the Apollo”. Stand in the very same spots where Michael Jackson, Ella Fitzgerald and James Brown once launched their careers. Who knows? Maybe this will be the start of an unforeseen performance career!
