Sumi-e is the art of ink wash-painting. Practiced for over one-thousand years, Sumi-e depicts the spirit or essence of an object rather than its outward appearance. Using the fewest possible strokes, you’ll learn the techniques that are fundamental to embracing the art form loved by the greats, including van Gogh himself.

Chifung (Mathew) Wong received his Ph.D in Fine Art at Kyushu Sangyo University Japan in 2006. He was a graduate research assistant and lecturer at K.S. University, Department of Fine Art, Faculty of Fine Arts from 2003 to 2007. His artwork is inspired by the cultures of Macau, Japan, and the United States. He tries to keep using traditional Japanese painting skills in his watercolor (Sumi-e) paintings and adds beautiful color to make the piece more modernistic. He has exhibited his pieces in Japan, the United States, and Australia.
