    New York in a Day

    (1)
For a newcomer, finding your way around Manhattan can be a bit like pirouetting blindfolded through a minefield: great fun until you trample the wrong person. Solution: treat yourself to a worry-free day of seamless oohs and ahs in Lower Manhattan with this guided tour! Up first, a visit to Wall Street and the NYSE, where you'll learn all about the city's financial toodoos and bespoke suit scene. Then, a more somber visit to the 9/11 Memorial awaits, which should be quite reflective (and not just because it has reflecting pools). After getting your money's worth in the financial district, the next stage of this tour ought to really float your boat. Explore the harbor by water taxi with your guide for a breathtaking look at the city skyline. Sail under the Brooklyn Bridge and alongside Liberty Island. Take time to revel in the sheer majesty of the scene, but try not to go overboard. A subsequent meandering about quaint Greenwich Village will lull you into a state of bliss. Learn about the Village's migrant culture and cuisine. Then, take a lunch break at Chelsea Market to sample some of that grub for yourself! Full on life (and hopefully cannolis), get in a bit of exercise with a walk atop the High Line from 14 to 23rd Street. Built atop a set of (no longer used) railroad tracks, this elevated garden is one of the city's finest examples of urban landscaping. But while the perspective from the High Line is rather lofty, it doesn't quite live "up" to the vantage point of your final destination. Put yourself in an "Empire State of Mind" with a trip to an 86th floor observatory. A pre-reserved ticket will get you past the lines, so you'll be free to take your time ogling the Big Apple as you part ways with your guide. And feel free to oggle mindlessly. It's really hard to trample irritable natives when you're 86 floors above them.
