Knowing where to go for lunch is one thing, but knowing where to go when you're just google-dropped into the center of the map is a different thing entirely.
Let's face it; we're not built for survival in the wild. Our instincts are not what they used to be, after thousands of years of this pampered human indoor lifestyle. So you want to get back to the basics? Well you came to the right place: Navigation clinic. Discover the way of the... well, just the way, when you take this great introduction to navigation.
You'll gain confidence on all future hikes, and you'll never wonder where north is again. You'll start with nomenclature and plotting. From there you'll hit the trail, navigating point-to-point, where each member of the group will conduct a navigation checklist, calculate distance, read the terrain on topographical maps, plot coordinates, determine pace count and estimate time.
Throughout the day you'll practice route selection, circumnavigation and doglegs. Furthermore, you will experience the lost art of triangulation, where you will calculate the lines of position. You'll learn a bit about GPS's, such as how to use them in the field and how to conserve battery, and lastly, you will hit topics that include stick and shadow and celestial aids to navigation
It is as the ancients say, "One can lose his or her lunch, but one can never lose his or her self.
