Jiu Jitsu was born more than 2,500 years ago when it was created by Buddhist monks. Because they could not use weapons, they developed a defense strategy based on the principle that leverage allowed a much weaker individual the ability to defeat stronger and heavier opposition.

There are three skills that must be mastered by a practitioner Jiu Jitsu practitioner: movement, balance, and leverage. Training with the gi gives the offensive person a huge advantage in his attacks because the gi can be used to choke, sweep, and control an opponent far beyond what would be possible without it.
