Samba isn't the only dance to come out of Brazil! Capoeira hides deadly kicks, punches and sweeps behind graceful dance moves. Developed by slaves who wanted to hoodwink their masters into believing they were dancing and singing while they were secretly plotting rebellion, this rhythmic martial art is steeped in Brazilian tradition. You'll get very fit very quickly as you practice the acrobatic moves to the music from traditional instruments (which you'll eventually learn to play yourself). Take turns entering the circle, or “open Roda,” two at a time to engage in a physical dialogue of attack and defense. If you want to learn all you can about Brazilian culture and this fascinating martial art, this is the place to do it!
Note: This is a free trial class for first time students only.
