Great experience with Kevin and Alicia as our guides. We did the two day tour and camped on Posey Island. It's a very small island that is actually a state park so we basically rented the entire island. The gear was in great shape and the guides were absolutely wonderful. Nice people and very knowledgeable about the local area/flora/fauna. We will be back for hopefully a longer tour next time!

hat a great team, starting from the owner Tim, to Tara, our guide. We booked a "Whales Ho" Full Day Tour. FANTASTIC experience. Our cousins ( from Florida) are experienced kayaker, and this was a new adventure for my husband and I. San Juan Kayak Expeditions were sooooooo professional. They email you a detail list of instructions before your trip - what you purchased, what to bring, and what to wear etc. the kayaks were in great shape and very clean. Both Tim and Tara greeted us by our names- amazing touch! And off we were on our guided tour. We LOVED our guide Tara. She was so informative and fun. Our full expedition included our lunch (prepared by one of the local restaurant- cannot remember the name) , which was excellent! This the best Kayaking company in San Juan Island. That is why they have been around for over 35 years. We choose them over the others based on their experience, lunch provided, and professionalism. Will return. Thank you Tim and Tara!

Our trip with Maya's Legacy was the absolute highlight of our vacation. Spencer and Jeff went out of their way to give us an experience of a lifetime. Humpbacks, Orcas, Sea Lions and Minke's. Their enthusiasm and joy was contagious.

We went on the 6 hour trip. We were camping at the County Park so we met them there. Cole was our amazing guide. Super knowledgeable and great guide. We were fortunate to seen a lot of J-Pod and the baby! For those of you thinking you will definitely see whales, really ?!?remember they are "wild animals" and go and come as they please. Cole, our guide had been listening to the radio and we went in the opposite direction that a lot of the tours were going. Obviously they keep abreast of the latest and most importantly he know the tides and when we should be coming and going. Even if we had not seen so many whales this would have been an unforgettable trip. I look forward to doing a multiple day trip in the future.

Our tour guide, Cole, was so great! Knowledgable of area wildlife and geology. Informative and fun expedition! A dream come true! We felt safe and were sad to see it end. Trip of a lifetime!

I went with a group of friends on the full day kayak tour to do exploration and hopefully see whales. And wow - did we see whales. We were so close we could hear them blowing. Tara was our guide and she knew a lot, and I mean a lot, about whales. When we realized they were in the area, we grouped together hanging on to all the kayaks, so the whales would echolocate and perceive us as one object. That should have decreased their stress even though there were still planes and big boats out there.
The day we went out started with strong currents, a high tide, and some wind. Tara and Cole guided us through the most difficult parts and we all made it to shore safely for lunch. Another kayak company was less helpful to their participants and it was our guides that gave instruction to them so they didn't float out to Canada. After lunch, the winds had settled and that is when we saw the whales. A memorable day.

We went on the sunset kayak event on the east side of the San Juan islands. We'd tried to book last minute for the half day earlier whale watching but missed the ferry (saw the returning group though and they said they saw a bunch of whales!) but they switched us to the evening kayaking luckily when we called (thanks for accommodating us!). Online it said we needed to book a day in advance, but they fit us in same day anyway. Expect to call and get a voicemail and then a very quick return call - this happened both times we called. It was very easy to get to from the ferry (we didnt take a car) and we got back with plenty of time to grab the 10pm ferry home. Note that the 10pm ferry is a 2 hour return trip, as opposed to the 1hr on the way there!
I liked everyone i met with this company and we had a great time. The water was perfect and still and we paddled through gorgeous mountain views, saw a bald eagle and some seals playing, but mostly it was just an astoundingly perfect day and place.
Our kayaks were like new and handled like a dream. I want this kayak for myself! They had a rudder to control turning which was helpful. Our guide knew a lot about the area and the wildlife and he helped us have a good time. Despite the fact neither of us have kayaked in a decade, we didnt struggle at all and had a nice relaxing evening. Though to be fair, I personally only carried the kayaks into the water and only kinda carried one half out. I have pretty weak arms :(
There is no bathroom at the place where you check in but there is a sort of facility where the sunset tour takes off without running water. They'll fill your water bottles when you check in so don't forget to do that!
We can't wait to go back for the whale watching or multiday tours. I'm SO glad the boat tours were all booked and we managed to find this one last minute! This was a much better way to experience the islands.

We absolutely LOVED our experiences with this company!!! Tara took us out on a full day trip to the west side of the island. She was an excellent guide; full of knowledge, respect for the wildlife and great stories. We saw orcas, seals and bald eagles. Our lunch stop was amazing and food was delicious.
We went out the next day with Will for a full day tour of Griffin Bay. Will was also a fantastic guide!!! He knew so much about the history, animal and plant life of the area. He also taught us a bunch about sea kayaking in general. We had a great trip and enjoyed the hike, tide pooling, the lighthouse and identifying all kinds of wild life. We can't imagine how either trip could have been better!!! Highly recommend this outfitter!!!!

So glad we booked a full day tour through this company!!! Our guides were amazing! Loved every minute of the tour. Tim was so gracious and gave us great tips about Friday Harbor. Will definitely book with them when we return to the area.

Beautiful day and fantastic experience! Got to kayak with an instructor Ty, I feel like I lucked out as he had so much knowledge about the area, flora and fauna and he was able to kayak me in close to different rock areas to look for starfish. We found some! Even though we didn't see whales he made the ride entertaining and interesting. The owners were also great in that I left my name the day before as I was just one person and no tours were booked yet, they made sure to call me when a tour was booked to add me on. Highly recommended!

We did the half-day kayaking tour with Ali, and I can't recommend it enough. Not only was it fun and action-packed, but it was perfectly suited to my ability level. I was a scared newbie and I felt very safe with Ali because she really took the time to explain everything and kept checking on me. Not only that, but she was a wealth of knowledge about local flora and fauna, which made the trip so much more interesting and memorable! I really appreciated the care that was shown from this company, from booking to final cleanup. Not only would I highly recommend it, but I'll be back again for more in the future! Thanks, guys!

Excellent experience! We took a full day tour with guide Will who's very knowledgeable about the island history and ecology. The equipment was good and we had a great time. Will was very respectful of the wildlife, and we saw a lot of it including an orca who swam right under our kayak and surfaced 15 feet away! I highly recommend this company!

I am very glad that I took on a "whale ho"tour with San Juan Kayak Expeditions. I brought a whole day tour on Groupon and booked it at the very last minute. The office returned my call in a very timely and professional manner.
As a first-timer, I did not know what to expect about the tour and about "no experience needed" on most kayaking tours' ads. Even though the tour's name sounds promising that whales be be seen, I saw other wild lives. My only complaint is that I did not encounter whales
My whole experience was influential and interested me in kayaking around the San Juan Islands (Later I paddled on Orcas Island and currently planing to do it again on Lopez). Before getting in the water, a mini lecture was given, and everyone was encouraged to show the position. Owner, multiple guides, and interns were on the tour. They helped out with setting up the steering paddles and skirts. Guides: Participants is almost 1:1. I paddled with one of the tour guides. She was patient and helpful while giving me further instructions, supervising my performance, and pointing at wild lives.
Lunch and water were provided. We picnicked at a park. Views were wonderful. I did not realize how high San Juan Kayak Expedition has set up the bar until kayaking with another local service provider- one young guide who looks like a summer job holder led six people. All participants were expected to bring own lunch and water. Instruction was not given thoroughly at all.
