About this Activity
Seattle is a wonderland for architecture, and as history tells us, the artistry of buildings is ever-changing. With Seattle Architecture Foundation as your guide, you'll explore the architectural favorites of Seattle, from the old (ie Kirtland Cutter's Rainier Club) to the new (think Rem Koolhaas' Central Library).
You'll learn about and get a new appreciation for the historical/social forces that impacted Seattle's architecture. So bring along a friend, sig other, or architecturally-curious co-worker and get yourself enlightened -- hey, we're not building this one up.
Note: Please wear comfortable walking shoes.

We went on the Diamonds & Gold: The Art Deco Skyscraper Northwest Style tour on a rainy Saturday morning. I can not recommend it highly enough or say enough good things about it
We were taught how to recognize building styles, walked to various locations to view lobbies and were also given history lessons on all that was seen.
My only disappointment was we didn't have the time to take more tours with this organization while we were in Seattle.
Definitely make time to learn about the city in a new way.

Sadly these days, I find myself pleasantly surprised when my expectations are simply being met. It's a rare group that not only meets, but actually exceeds those expectations. SAF deserves to be singled out as a group that has regularly exceeded expectations in every single encounter I've had with them!
The tours are informative and entertaining. I was a bit nervous upon booking my first tour as I'm not involved in the field of architecture and was worried that I wouldn't understand much of the material presented. Not to worry - tours focus on history and the human elements that drove the development of our built environment. When material specific to the field of architecture was presented, it was done in a way that anyone from novice to involved professionals will find engaging. Ditto for the lectures we have attended. This group offers experiences for all age levels - I've brought my high school aged children to both tours and lectures and both have enjoyed their experiences.
The volunteer training is extensive and the professionals who donate their time are eager to share their love of our city and their field. I'd encourage anyone interested in taking a tour to purchase a membership. Cost is minimal and grants you discounted rates on all SAF programs.
If you are looking for a tour to satisfy your curiosity, entertain out of town guests, or even help your child do research for a potential career path, you owe it to yourself to look into

We have taken two tours through the Seattle Architecture Foundation: Diamonds & Gold: The Art Deco Skyscraper Northwest Style and Hidden Spaces /Public Places. Both had a wealth of information and insight into historical and contemporary Seattle. The tours move at a comfortable pace and make frequent stops. The guides are well-informed and easy to understand. I recommend the Seattle Architecture tours to anyone who wants to have an enjoyable and interesting tour. Tours are about 2 hours long.
